I can't locate a local dealer who sells batteries for a 1993 volvo 850. One store does carry them for the 1994 volvo 850. Will the 1994 battery work in my 1993 model?
The only number on my old 1993 battery that I noted was 58r-60.

the batteries in both these years are interchangable, so yes it will fit.

If it will fit in the tray it will work--make sure you connect positive to positive .
Both Sears and AAA sell batteries to fit that.
AAA( at least where I live) will come out and install.

They should be identical. partsamerica.com has the same battery listed for both years.
