I ask because I saw an earlier question in which it was stated that we believe that & to be truthful I've known Christians who believe it. But they weren't people I was comfortable discussing it with.

I"ve read Song of Solomon & some verses in Proverbs, so I know sex isn't just for procreation.

I have read nothing in the Bible that states sex is only for procreation. Within a marriage sex should be an intimate experience. And, by the way, where does an unmarried man feel he has the right to dictate the rules for married couples about sexual relations. How would he know unless he was sampling the forbidden fruit

I agree with the first answer. Try reading the Song of Solomon or Song of Songs in some Bibles. Be with your lover and light a few candles and read your parts from that book to each other. You may not procreate, but, you sure will recreate. That my opinion. Sex can be beautiful when it not perverted and sex can be special between two people.

It's not a specific verse but a cultural mindset that informs the passages. One obvious concept is the Levirate Law, which states an obligation by the husband's family to provide, as far as possible, children to carry on the family name. If the husband dies without having any children, the dead man's nearest male relative must impregnate the wife so that the dead man's line will not die out.
The application of this law is graphically demonstrated in Genesis 38. Tamar is married to one of Judah's sons, who dies, transferring the genetic obligation to his reluctant brother Onan who refuses to cooperate, presumably because he has no interest in furthering his brother's family at the expense of his own. It takes years and intiative for Tamar to force Judah's family to honor its commitment.
In a world where the food supply and the labor supply were precarious and the child mortality rate was high, having lots of children was an important social value, just because of the burn rate. Recreational sex was a waste of crucial resources. Nowadays, the wisdom of this position is not so apparent.

Not all Christians believe that sex is only for procreation. As a matter of fact they must have misunderstood what it says in the bible then. It says that we are to enjoy sexual intimacy within the bonds of marriage of course.

a hundred and forty four,000 is 12x12x1000=a hundred and forty four,000, the 1st 12 is for the tribes of Israel the 2nd 12 is the style of Apostles and the single thousand represents the completed as in Hebrew and Greek thousand can mean a myriad. So the a hundred and forty four,000 are probable the Christian dedicated who're now the recent Israel, all Israel has been saved (including certainly Jews of direction). Israel skill 'Persevere with God' those are people who lived there lives for God via thick and skinny. @easy and actuality lots of the Church fathers believed that the tribe of Dan is excluded via fact the Anti-Christ will come out of Dan, in Deuteronomy 33:22 Moses stated Dan is a Lion's welp and shall leap out of Basan. The Bible says stated "Your adversary the devil as a roaring Lion walks approximately searching for somebody he could eat" one million Peter 5:8

What? The idea that sex outside of procreation is a sin is nothing more than Roman Blasphemy.
There is NO verse that states that, but there are several that are against it. Paul suggests marriage if one cannot control their LUST, not their desire to have kids....

**Just to point out an aside-it is the most common reason given for christians to say homosexuality is wrong. I've actually seen it written "if we were ok with homosexuals, the human race would be wiped out in a few generations-they can't procreate!" Which is, of course, a ridiculous statement. I think they get tired of saying the bible says it's bad and get creative with their reasons.**
