Contact CenterpointEnergy.com and look on their careers page. They are always hiring and offer great benefits. Most of their staff is retiring within the next 10-15 years, so you will have great opportunity if you can wait it out.

If you have readily available public transport, and you don't mind using it, then it makes perfect sense. In my town, bus service is rather sketchy and doesn't serve the outlying areas (including where I live). I also work unusual hours at times (many late nights) and bus service often ends before I can get out of the office. So, in my case, it's not feasible. If it was, though, I wouldn't mind saving the wear and tear on my vehicle. The only other issue is safety. I've not heard of much trouble on buses (Epic Beard Guy notwithstanding), but there have been a lot of issues in some cities when it comes to subways, L-trains and other types of metro service rail. Again, if that's not a problem with the system you're planning on using, then by all means, go for it.
