Without a transplant a person can be on dialysis and live but not for too long. Dialysis works almost the same but it is not something that will help you live the rest of you life. It is meant to keep you alive until you get a transplant.

Yes.
Anyone with complete kidney failure would have to be on dialysis for about 2-5 hours a day. Failing to have dialysis would result in a moderately quick and excruciating death.
