Thats funny because usually the judge or court will assign you to somewhere to do the service and be in touch with the administrator of the service to let them know you are going to be working there for them as part of restitution. You should also get a form that you have to have filled out showing your hours worked and signed off.
I guess if they are letting you pick them I would work at a senior home or at a homeless shelter or something. Working at the hospital might be a bit of an issue with being on community service

just 10 hours?? LOL... damn.. u are lucky. You can volunteer at humane society, churches, town hall, libraries, soup kitchen, shelter, goodwill/salvation army, schools, any non profit organization.. You can call 211 or go to infoline.com for more info.... be aware that some places won't let you do community service because you're court appointed. Make sure you tell them it's not just "volunteer" otherwise you'll do your hours and they won't sign your paper....

1. Volunteer at a homeless shelter in your area.
2. Volunteer at a battered women's shelter in your area.
3. Volunteer to teach literacy to inmates at your local jail or prison.
4. Join the Big Brother/Big Sister program and mentor some kids in your area.
5. Volunteer to teach ESL(English as a Second Language) classes in your area.
6. Volunteer to deliver meals to seniors. There is certainly a Meals-On-Wheels program in your area assisting the disabled and elderly who aren't able to leave their homes.
7. Volunteer to teach children how to swim at your local YMCA or public youth center.
Once you spend time volunteering to help others in these ways or perhaps some others, the ten hours will pass quickly, and you will find yourself changed for the better from having helped others.

If you have done something stupid, like drugs or such, ask your local schools if you can talk to students about the pitfalls of doing drugs.
Or ask rest homes about volunteering with the elderly....they are always looking for people to come in entertain....just leading a 'song fest' or some other simple thing.

You can volunteer at a hospital, but you can also contact your local volunteer fire companies - if you have one. They use people in your situation to assist in things like setting up for special occasions, cleanup, etc.
