Why would you want to do that? The only reason a person should ever consider lightening their skin is if they suffer from a lot of embarrassing skin discolorations (uneven skintone) or have blotchy skin from the sun or other things. But if you don't suffer from that stick with your natural complexion. From what you said about your ethnic mixture, you should have a beautiful skin tone.........but if you must insist on doing so, I'd advise you to take a natural approach to skin lightening, like using lemon juice or tomato juice or even an all natural lemon soap or papaya soap. They also have many creams on the market but be careful with those..... some can be harsh on the skin. So just try a mild one. Avon, Aveeno and Neutrogena have a selection of skin enhancing products as well as other brands.

Don't go out in the sun, and if you do, go out with lots of sunscreen. There's nothing that will make your face lighter other than Michael Jackson bleaching (ewww!), but you can make your complexion brighter by using a turmeric paste on your face every day or rubbing lemon peel. Be proud of what you've got--do you know how many white people would kill to be naturally tan?

I think that whether or not light skinned Indians are embarrassed of their darker relatives is totally up to them and their mindset on beauty. Indians are people from the country India or the Indian Sub - continent. Indians from the North near the Himalayas are considerably very light skin and could pass off as a European. North Indians, more specifically North - West Indians are the lightest bunch of the whole Indian subcontinent due to the gene flow into India from the regions of Persia, and Arabia, and Europe. A good example of North - West Indians would be the Punjabi's, Sindhi's, Kashmiri's and Gujarati's. Whereas on the North - East side of the Indian Sub - continent, the people there do have some gene flow from the Western regions but not as much but more from the eastern regions such as Tibet and etc. A good example of North - East Indians are the Bengali's, Assamese and etc. In terms of demographics, the North Indians are refereed to as "Indo - Aryans". South Indians on the other hand are similar to the North Indians but lack the gene variety that the North Indians have. South Indians are referred to as "Dravadians". Their skin colour is much darker and can be compared to that of an indigenous African person. I would assume that one of the reasons why South Indians do not appear much on media is because they are not as exposed to it as the North Indians are. There is a film industry in South India but it only caters to the small population of South India where there are a variety of languages that make it harder to cater to the different ethnic groups of South India. North India on the other hand have a common language that almost all of them understand which is "Hindi". Hindi is spoken by almost every North Indian person and even if he/she does not speak it, they will still be able to understand because of the tangibility between the North Indian languages. My other theory is that from a very young age, parents have been putting it into children's mind, that fairness equals to beauty. I am a Punjabi and I too feel that i am at fault. I do wonder why sometimes i am slightly darker than my ethnic group members. I do feel that fairness is beauty but i do not discriminate against the South Indians as they have their own rich culture.

Try to be happier in your own skin, look at people like Michael Jackson, beauty starts with self confidence not a cream or a scalpel. If you do not want to be any darker use a good sunblock before prolonged sun exposure.

If you are uncomfortable with the way you look then maybe you need some counciling instead of a skin lightener. I'm as white as a sheet and I'm always trying to get tan. No one is ever going to be perfectly happy with the way they look until we are all in a perfect mindset. (God's new world) Be proud of who you are!
