well if she is a good baby sitter other wise then i dont think that you should let her go.
every sitter or parent has his or her own way of doing for the child. so she probably does this with all the kids and really doesnt see any problem with it.
you have said he doesnt use the sippi cup at home so, maybe what she say's is true.
however, you are the mom and what you want is the way it should go ALWAYS. i think if she is open to finding better ways to get your child to use the sippi cup, you know 2 heads are better then one then, thats great.
if she is not open to that then get rid of her. there should be no clashing. like i said it's your way or the high way. if she agree's to your want's then behind your back she still gives the sippi cup, definetly fire her.
as for the question is it good for the baby. no, i dont think so. my 2 year old chokes sometimes standing up.
so good luck hope this was helpful

At 1 yr old, he shouldn't need "propping." She should hand him the cup and if he chooses to lay down with it, then that's fine. He should no longer be given a bottle at all, so that shouldn't be an issue. He shouldn't have any liquids at naptime for several reasons. 1. his teeth won't have been brushed and he can develop cavities and 2. he'll become dependent on it and will have troubles potty training at nap and bedtime if he is given liquids in bed. Just voice your concerns and if it doesn't change, then get a new sitter if it bothers you that much.

It's not an old wives tale...there is a higher risk of choking. It sounds like laziness on behalf of the babysitter to me - I'd find another sitter if she isn't willing to respect your wishes about this. Chances are, she's lacking in other areas too if that's the case.

I think it could cause ear problems if it happens all the time... although it sounds like she's already been doing it for a while and there hasn't been any ear infections. But I don't think it's worth firing her over. Just explain your concerns to her, that you would like her to correct this behavior. She might be worried that your son won't drink anything unless she bends to his wishes to lay down.

i think it's fine because i breastfed my daughter while we were laying down every night and she never had any issues...and sometimes while i'm changing her diaper i'll let her drink from her sippy...i don't think it's that big of a deal but if it makes you uncomfortable then let the sitter know

My daughter only drank her juice/milk in a bottle or sippy laying down on her back for over a year and never had one problem. Your son is old enough to control how much he drinks, put the bottle down, roll over, etc., so there is nothing to worry about. It may be relaxing for him and help him relax when it's time for a nap, etc. Don't worry so much.

my boyfriends daughter is 2yo. she drinks from her sippy while laying down. she's done that since she can hold a bottle or cup. it's no biggie.
call your ped dr if you are worried about it causing probs. they can advise you and set you at ease that there is no problem.
if she's been sitting for years she knows her stuff.

I don't think that at a year old there would be any problems, but as his mother she should respect what you ask of her, even if you are being over-protective..
I would for sure talk to her this evening about it, Good Luck!
