My co-worker is transferring to another geographical area, and he has some work files that would help me here. I'd like to save them to my computer, so that I can access it once he's gone.

It is a huge amount of e-mails my co-worker has that I will need in my daily work. It would take hours to forward them. Any advice?

Why not have the co-worker forward the important emails to you. Then you will have them on your computer.

EDIT:
Okay, then go to Outlook Help and read how to Archive a Folder Manually. You can choose what folder, subfolders and the location (in your case an external drive) for the archive.pst file.

You should be able to access this archive from your computer, although I have not personally verified this.
