My friend invited my sister and I to go to the beach with them. I want to be really excited... but I feel bad my parents don't get to go. We havn't gone on vacation for so long! I never go anywhere and I get really creeped out when I have to leave home. I'm around my parents 24/7 because I'm homeschooled and everything. They keep saying "Go and have the time of your life!" But I'm sad to leave them at home and mom says she 'won't' be okay when I'm gone because there won't be any kids around. I asked them if they really wanted me to go and they said yes. But I still feel really bad that they never get to do anything and sissy and I get to go have fun when mom and dad are stuck at home. I want to go, but I feel guilty leaving them home! They always tell me I'll have so much fun that I'll forget about them... but that'd be way too hard to do. What do you guys think?

You forget that your parents chose the lifestyle that they are living. They must enjoy it. Remember when they were teenagers they had fun too. Now it is your turn to have fun. Always remember that your parents got along just fine before you were born and they will continue on when you are off living in your own home or apartment.

"They always tell me I'll have so much fun that I'll forget about them". That is just what you should do.

well, your mother says to "GO HAVE FUN" on one hand, then she turns around and tries to get you to feel sorry for her by saying she WON'T BE OK? ummm does she always send out mixed messages?

meanwhile, guilt is for criminals. it's not a crime to go on a vacation and have a good time. you are young and you ought to be able to enjoy your life.

if your parents don't ever get to do anything, it's not your fault... if they really wanted to go and do something, they would... it's not that hard...

i think your mother is a little screwy, and she has you brainwashed.

maybe it's time to use your own brain, think for YOURSELF and stop allowing others to run your emotions.

once you get out there in the "real world" people will try to use you all the time... and try to manipulate you and put guilt trips on you about things which aren't your problem. maybe stop the insanity NOW and start doing what is best for you.

taking this trip is the first step

Wow, you are lucky your parents do tell you to go and have fun. My mom made me feel guilty when I wasn't with her every day. So, stop the guilt, because they can go if they want to go. Why don't they, by the way? Trips to the 'outside world' can cost little to nothing if you just want to get out, so don't feel bad for them. My daughter LOVES staying home all the time, but makes the effort for her son so he can enjoy other things. Go and have fun and don't worry about mom and dad; they are adults. Enjoy!

I think you need to get out of the house. You sound as if you have a fear of leaving the house and your parents. This is the down side to being home schooled as you can not relate well
in a social setting. I am sure your parents can get along fine if your gone for a few hours. Leaving them out of guilt is not the issue. Sounds more like you have a fear of leaving them.

As parents we want our kids to have a good time. I know you feel bad leaving them, but trust me they will be fine.
Most of the time, when our kids are having fun, we get immense pleasure in knowing that. Not to mention, it give your parents a chance to have some time alone. While it's great that you are such a considerate person, there are times when we need step back. Especially since you're a child, you are not responsible for your parents happiness. Go and have a good time. I'm sure they will miss ya, but they will be alright!
