Why is it that if a criminal killed my child, I'd have to forgive him, yet God would send me to hell just for lying about the size of a fish I caught. Unless, of course, I accepted Jesus as my savior, because only a blood sacrifice would clear me in the eyes of a merciful and infinitly loving God.

Sin is sin, and God will judge. Some sins are worse than others in our sight, but all sin will be punished.
This is a hard saying in Christianity, and it challenges us because of our sinful human nature...that if we are wanting to be forgiven, we must also forgive others. I struggle with it at times myself.
We all have a sense of injustice, and this is our example: that Jesus, who was blameless, suffered and died, and even prayed that our Father would forgive the ones that put Him there because they didn't really know what they were doing.
At the end of what we call the Lord's prayer, a verse reads, "For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses."
Matthew 6:14 and 15.
Tough words to hear. Easy to get though if you know God and love Him.
Do you really lie about the size of fish you caught? I wish I had the chance to be so tempted...I usually just get snagged on the bottom, or hung up on a limb from overcasting.

What blood sacrifice? That was in the old testament and with the sacrifice of Jesus in the new testament, we don't have to sacrifice animals and other things for our sins.

You are being one sided. That criminal will be judged and sentence to an eternal damnation in Hell for his actions. If you accept Jesus and forgive the criminal and live the life of Jesus. You will be in Heaven with your child.

I think you need to step out of the shadow and into the light for a little while. Ouch, you really made my head hurt.

LOL @ going to hell for lying about the size of a fish you caught. How can you mock what you do not understand?

God asks us to forgive for our sakes not for the person who did us wrong. you can't take away there sin only God can. As for lying about a fish..get real. God does not need our sacrifices either, it's been taken care of already.

Nevermind the obvious Christian answers. I would propose, rather, that your question is flawed based on the simple line "God would send me to hell."

God doesn't send anybody to hell. People send themselves to hell by their own imperfection.

You basically have to trample over Jesus' sacrifice and kick him out of the way to get yourself into hell. It's definitely possible, and I would venture to say that the vast majority of people do it, but it has nothing to do with God sending you to hell. God's the one person trying to keep you out of hell.

But he won't stop you from forcing your way in there, if you're so determined.

The teaching about a life in torment after death by means of a hellfire is a false teaching that has been taught for years.

This is what the Bible says: “As the [beast] dies, so the [man] dies; and they all have but one spirit . . . All are going to one place. They have all come to be from the dust, and they are all returning to the dust.” (Ecclesiastes 3:19, 20) There is no mention here of a fiery hell. Humans return to dust—to nonexistence—when they die.

In order to be tormented, a person has to be conscious. Are the dead conscious? Once again, the Bible gives the answer: “The living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten.” (Ecclesiastes 9:5) It is impossible for the dead, who are “conscious of nothing at all,” to experience agony anywhere.

I don't think your question is sincere, but let me tell you every one has lied, therefore everyone should be going to hell, but that's one of the reasons Jesus died for us.

A criminal did kill my child, (speeding driver) and I had to forgive him, it is the most difficult thing in the world, if I want to be forgiven I have to forgive, no matter how much I hate it. I had to forgive him in order to see her again.
It sucks, but that's how it goes.

Gothic Shadow, God DOESN'T "send you to hell just for lying about the size of fish". There is only one reason a person doesn't go to heaven and that is for rejecting Christ's sacrifice on the cross for you.

We are all dwelling here and are in the same boat.
We are spiritually dead before we become spritually
alive in God. When we are made spiritually alive in God,
then we are redeemed from the penalties of being
spiritually dead. Sin is "natural" to us and so is our
need for God.

Because if you want to be forgiven you have to be able to forgive...Losing a child to a preditor is the most horrifying thing to happen to anyone....That would be the hardest thing to ever forgive but we would have to to be forgiven of our sins....
For none is perfect only one the Son of God, Jesus
I agree with Catholic Crusader!!!!!!!!!!!
Thats my story and I'm stickin' to it!
