i once wrote "there would be a tip if there were service" when i got the check from a rude and terrible server .

the best tip was one evening after work i went to olive garden still in my chef's uniform. my server a young, pretty, and very [7 months] pregnant young lady seemed to have something bothering her, she gave me good service ,but no smile. christmas being a week away. when i finished my meal i took the check to the bar to pay ,she did not know that i knew the bartender and wanted to say hello. i turned around ,she was standing behind me crying. she thought i was complainig about her not smiling [i was not] . i had put a 50.00 dollar bill in the folder, and another for my bartender friend. i told my server i would come back after closing and listen if she wanted to talk. later that night she told me her boyfriend had left her . and she was moving back home ,she would be alright. i held her in my arms for a couple of hours, i opened my wallet and emptied it into her lap[120.00 more dollars] . i said "have a merry christmas it is a great time of year". and i said "good bye". i could only hope she is alright. sorry ,so long ,but that is why the best tip.

I left a "tip once" I wrote on the back of the bill do your job.
I was at a restaurant, it was not crowded, there were plenty of servers on the floor. However, three of them were occupied socializing loudly using no shortage of vulgarity at an adjacent table. the food was cold by the time it arrived, some of the beverages never arrived. There was no quality check mid meal, and when I finally did flag her down to ask for a glass of water, she rolled her eyes (the water never did arrive) It took 45 minutes to have our table cleared and another 20 minutes after that to get the bill. So yes, I left no money, rather a few words of advice as to what she should do in the future if she expects a service premium.

The best tip I gave was probably about $20 on a $30 tab. Great food, Great place. The service was phenomenal and the chef has a few moments and came out to personally ask if we were enjoying out meal. The server was able to answer every question and was incredibly attentive. He made some great recommendations even down to a beverage that went quite well with our main course. I go back there often, it is affordable, great food and the people are fantastic.

The worst tip I ever left was nothing. I went into a restaurant with an hour to go before I had to be at work. A huge party of people came in after me and the waitress left me in the middle of my drink order to wait on them...because she knew them. Once she brought my food she never checked on me; she just stood at the table full of friends and hung out with them. I told the manager and left a note on the table stating why I didn't leave a tip and I told them I would never be back.

The best tip I ever left was something like 25% at restaurant. There was a Native Amerrican boy who waited on me and he did an impeccable job of taking care of me. I told his mother what a great job he did also.

The worst: When I went to a going away party for a former co-worker and a bunch of other girls from the office I was at at the time, we got HORRIBLE service. Not one person got a refill on their drinks, our food took two hours to get to us. The server never asked us if we needed anything or if everything was prepared well. When I asked for some extra honey mustard for my chicken tenders, she literally rolled her eyes and scoffed at me! Everyone at the table noticed and said "Did you see that?!?" when she walked away. Unfortunately, since we had such a large group, gratuity was included in the tab. Me and the girls pulled every last penny we could find from our purses and threw them on the table. We also had a long talk with the manager. I haven't seen her at the restaurant since!

BEST: The server was pretty much the exact opposite from the one above. She was very polite and the ice never touched the bottom of our glasses. She even struck up a conversation with us without skipping a beat! She got a cool $15.

My worst tip was nothing at all. BUT the waiter was rude, never checked on my mother and I. Our glasses sat empty for the second half of our dinner, until I attempted to flag him over, numerous times (he had given me that "I'll be with you in a moment" hand gesture) and finally having to get up from my table to call him over and give us our refills.
And to top it all off, it was a small restaurant with maybe 4 tables being used and plenty of waiters. If it were busy, I wouldn't have cared.

My best tip that I left was almost 50%. This girl was very friendly and professional. She gave us enough privacy to eat without being neglectful. Never had to wait or flag her down, and she did one thing that you very rarely find today.... When she gave my husband and I the bill, she placed it at the edge of the table, not assuming that one or the other was paying. She was truely, exceptional.

The worst 25 Cents; the waiter came to greet us after 15 minutes after we got our table and being sitting there, he forgot the drinks, once the food came he literally drop the plates on the table from "up high", needless to say we were never went back.

Best tip ever, $60 dollars in a $180 bill, outstanding service.

My worst tip was three dollars. The waiter was horrible and all we ordered was a five dollar dessert. it took them 30 minutes to bring a piece of cake out. WTF? lol My best tip was 200 dollars. My cousin was leaving to go to school in Colorodo, and i knew she needed some extra money for the move. So i went to the restraunt where she worked and had supper with my wife, and my cousin was our waitress. When we got done eating i left two twenties for the meal ( it was around thirty five dollars for our meal) and i then put two 100 dollar bills under the bill. She called me that night and said she was very thankful and really needed the money. It was the right thing to do. She works so hard, and i knew she deserved it.

I had such bad service somewhere I did not even leave a tip at all. The waiter followed me out the door and said no tip. I said exactly. You deserve nothing, and I also never went back, either.

I collect pennies and other coins which I find in the road (the ones which have been run over by cars) and use them for tips when I receive really bad service. I even notify the waitress before I leave that I left something special for her.
For good service I left a USA 1798 penny that I had purchased for $140.00 (I felt sorry for the waitress and wanted to cheer her up)

A friend and I sat at our table and saw our server in the corner arguing about not wanting to serve us. Then when he came to greet us you could tell he was pissed. I thought maybe he was getting off soon and they forced us on him but it was in the middle of dinner. When he took our order he wrote NOTHING down. Mind you my friend had some pretty crazy request. I try to order things that dont need to many adjustments or are fine the way they are but she's a bit extreme. So I ordered a steak MR and she ordered some grilled chicken thing. An hour later someone else came with our food: a well done steak for me and a MR steak for her. When we told them it was wrong they said they would get our server. Our server came 10minutes later. He had to make 3 corrections until finally we told him we didnt want the food we just wanted to pay for our drinks. He came back with the bill and on the bill was of course the food we didnt eat which was wrong anyway! We told him we werent paying for the food we didnt eat and asked him to correct this. All the while, we were trying to be as polite as possible but he was so rude to us. Finally, he came back with the bill this time the well done steak was removed but the MR steak I ordered but didnt eat was still up there when I asked to speak to a manager he said that I had to pay it because it came out right. So, finally I told him I didnt want him to come near our table anymore and to get the manager. When I told the manager what happened he was pissed. We paid for our drinks and didnt tip the server at all but we did tip the bartender who had to find us to give us our drinks because they had been waiting at the bar forever. It was such a crazy night.
