Especially Christianity. I am a non-Christian and these 'Christians' always talk about Jesus this and that and how if someone doesn't believe in him they will go to hell and all. And I wonder what would they be thinking of me? I was never a Christian in the first place. But I tried to fit in by going to their "Christian" meetings and all just to be with friends. That didn't work out but backfired most of the time so I gave up. Why does it happen like this? Why are most Americans like this? Can't we have a perfectly normal conversation WITHOUT bringing religion into the picture?

who knows. because this country is so bent on brainwashing people.

those of who arent religious in this country are constantly fighting to keep the freedoms we have. if it was up to christians we'd all be mindless zombies with no freedoms.

Why are Christians the target of these antagonistic posts? I don't care what you say, I have been watching the questions here for quite a long time, and at least over 90% of anti-rligious questions are aimed at Christians. Why is that? If you think that God is a fairy tale and religion is bad, then why don't you include Jews, Muslims, or Hindus in this question? Well, I know one big reason why: Because Institutions of Higher Learning (what a joke!) have systematically attacked Christianity and indoctrinated their minds-full-of-mush students into believing this garbage. Most of you attackers come out of a post-christian cultural situation in which blaming Christiasnity for everything is acceptable and politically correct. In fact, bigotry against Christians (and especially Catholic Christians) is one of the last acceptable prejudices in America. Insult a homosexual or a Muslim, and you've commited a hate crime. Insult a Christian and you're a hero at UC Berkeley. These attacks are better proof than anything else I kinow of that Christanity is the true religion. Why else would the world attack it so hard?

The last time I had a conversation about religion was when an atheist (my sister's boyfriend) felt he should explain to me why Christians hate gays and are all pro-war. It was so over the top. This was the first time I had ever even met the guy, and my sister happened to tell him I was a Christian. I would have to say I have only experienced this a few times, not even nearly enough for me to complain about it on a website like this. Are you sure you aren't the one steering the conversation into a religious direction?

Gee... I really was wondering why anyone would post a religion question in the RELIGION and SPIRITUALITY section... I am glad you clarified that.
1. Don't go to Christian meetings if you don't want to hear about Christianity.
2. Find a Yahoo section that would not discuss religion.
3. Why would you really care what Christians thought about you if you are not a Christian?
4. Do you really ONLY know Christians who ONLY go to Christian meetings?
5. America is a diverse nation, I don't think you can be stuck in any place that only religion is discussed...except a religious meeting...or YAHOO R &S.
6. I INSIST you find another topic to discuss. I know we will all sleep better knowing you are not forced to listen to religious discussion.

Why must you be so affected by what someone else enjoys talking about? You are only opposite in what you choose to converse about. Just Like there would be no normal without abnormal. You choose your topic of conversation just as they do. Who said that anyone wants to hear what you have to say?

There are many branches of Christianity, but what many of them have in common is an obligation to "save" non-christians. They simply cannot live with themselves if they allow you to go to hell without trying to save you (from hell.) If you saw a man drowning, and you happened to be in a boat, and within reach, would you not come to his aid. They see you drowning, and they have the power to save. It is their moral obligation. That's what they're thinking. They're constantly on the look out for drowning souls. Stop hanging out with these types of people if you don't want to hear it. Or tell them you understand their position and then change the subject.

It sounds like the problem is you're hanging out with Christian Americans. By going to their Christian meetings, you're giving them the impression that you're a Christian, so they talk to you about Christianity. We're not all like that, though--don't worry.

First of all let me just give you a few knowledge about Christians or Christianity. Christianity is not a religion it never is and will never will, Christian means "the people of Christ", Christianity is yourself effort to be the people of Christ, or your one on one commitment with Him. Everyone who believes in Jesus, everyone who follows Jesus, everyone who is living theyre lives in accordance to Jesus is considered to be a Christian.

My answer to your question is they just wanted more people to know about Him, they just wanted more people to be saved. Real Christians will feel that way.

if i was one of the ones who talked about Jesus, it would be because i love him and he has done so much in my life. i never tell people they are going to hell. if they are interested in salvation, i tell them about it. i don't believe God wants anyone to be scared into living for him. he wants them to do it out of love and a desire for him. now, as far as your question about having conversations without mentioning religion, i have several acquaintances that i speak to on a regular basis and religion is not brought up. if i can't live a life that they recognize as genuine, then i have no witness. if they ask questions, i answer them. most of the time, these same people will come to me for prayer.

it also depends on what area of the nation you are in. if you live in the south, what's known as the bible belt, it seems that everyone goes to church somewhere.

i am sorry about your failed relationships. but it could be that God is putting people in your life that will tell you about him because he wants to have a relationship with you.

I almost never hear about religion in my daily life except here on R&S. I see churches, I know there are religious TV shows....but unless some missionary knocks on my door....I virtually never hear about religion in my day to day personal life.

Whether or not you see it, religion is all around you. The governments you live under were spawned from religious values. If anything, be upset over the "beliefs" element of religion, not the common sense such as "not killing other people."
