We have boys that range in age from 7 to 16. What would be something they could do in our community?

With the ages you mentioned, you must be working with a Boy Scout troop and a Cub Scout pack. They might not be able to do a service project together., Check with the local council to see if that can happen. If you have a local park, they can clean the area and repaint any benches. Find out from the schools that your Scouts attend who takes care of raising the U.S. flag in the morning. They could take care of it and maybe complete some advancement requirements at the same time.

The Snoqualmie Campus, The Mountaineers works closely with many Scout troop to provide not only a Alpine wooded campus for camping and hiking events in the summer but winter camping and snow play events. Many of the troop do service project on campus - fire wood chopping, trail clean up and maintenance, road culvert cleaning, general area trash pick up and traffic control at large events...... to contribute to the campus and well as earn credit toward reduce user fees. I would be glad to offer out some more suggest service project for we also have painting, tent site constructions project that need to be done yet this fall 2007. check us out on the web www.snoqualmiecampus.org.

We also are working with troops to provide Leave no trace certification events on Campus.

They can have a car wash to benefit an animal no kill shelter to help cover costs such as, food, medications, vet care, kennels, transportation, etc. I have one in mind, Old Fella, have you heard of him? He is an old dog rescued from a campground 2 years ago and his fate was sure death with the heartworms he had and the many diseases and missing foot he has from getting it caught in a trap. His story has moved the nation and gone to other countries. Having a car wash to help this organization will help organizations throughout the USA because they move animals all over now. See the link below to one of the pages of their website, it is newspaper stories about the start of Old Fella's Rescue and how far it has come. Even if they don't have a car wash to benefit Old Fella then perhaps one that is in their community.

Your story aside, which by the way gives credit to the complaint to no one in particular, Liberals do not hate the troops. Disagreeing with the current administrations foreign policy sais nothing about your perspective on the military. The concept of the left hating the troops is simply a "tallking point" coming from the administration that the right somehow believe.

Collect canned goods for a soup kitchen.
Or used clothing for a homeless shelter.
Or cans for recycle.
Or entertain the elderly at a rest home once a week.
Or clean the yards of the elderly for free.
Or paint fire hydrants (with the city's permission of course).
Or adopt a highway or a park and clean it up.

There are lots of elderly people in nursing homes who have no family or friends and are alone, call your local nursing home, and find out if they have any elderly persons that fit the criteria, of this, then have them "adopt a grandparent" They will love the company and attention, plus you could ask people to donate cloths, slippers, fruit, toiletries, ect, and give this to the residents that live there, I work at one, and I see people come in all the time with no cloths to wear, and no family to care about them, and its really depressing for them, and this alone would brighten there day, and what little time they have left.

They could work with the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate. Even if some of them are too young to work on the construction site they can still build bird houses, plant flowers, make flower boxes or artwork for the new homeowner. Visit habitat.org to find one near you - they are always looking for more youth projects!
