America lost to Korea? Guess weed is better now than it was in my day. To answer your question, yes, and yes. Japans military is severely limited by its constitution to a defense force. South Korea which the stoned guy above failed to mention has a fine military, one the North won't soon tangle with but in Asia, a fine army never the less.
PS. Terry'D, is that some type of liberal revisionist history?
PSS. And John C, you'd be surprised, South Korea in some cases has better equipment than us, they can afford it now and they do buy it. South Korea has the largest economy and largest GDP outside of japan and China in all of Asia, their Army is well trained, and well supplied.

No- the American miloitary has very poor human resources. Wirthout forward capability in the form of cruise missiles, Medium Range Surface to surface and aircraft- it would be powerless.
A fine example is the current state of the war machine in Iraq- where they are contemplating reinstatement of the draft.
Korea and Japan are well-trained, well-armed and highly disciplined. The discipline is what the US lacks.
