I have very irregular periods and I was just wondering if it's still possible to ovulate even if I don't have a period. Please clarify and give details.

FYI - Was on the pill for 5 years and got off a year ago but my periods are irregular again!

possible, but not common. In a womans cycle , the release of an egg also releases hormones. If the egg is not fertalized, the hormone decreases and the uterine lining is shed (thats your period) You may be ovulating but not building up an endomitrial lining each month, which means that pregnancy is moot anyway, since there is no where for the egg to implant. Consult a dr, he may put you on the pill for a few months to regulate your cycle. Good luck

the short answer is Yes! The problem with not being regular and tryin to conceive is it makes it harder to tell when you are ovulating.
I have gone through the whole 'pill' issue as well! My body didn't get regular for almost a year after I stopped taking them.
If you havent done so already you should go to your Dr. I ended up taking medication to make my body start my cycle...sometimes your body just needs a kick start to get back into the swing of things.
It may be a long uphill battle to pregnancy if you don't get checked out...and y create unnecessary stress. Good luck!
