Foot the bills for American companies to outsource to other countries and pollute?

Our companies go to other countries and pour toxic chemicals etc. into their waterways and dumping grounds.Who foots the bills for this? You and Me every time we give one of these countries a grant for clean up.Shouldn't the particular company be responsible? Not to mention responsible for the millions who have come here seeking clean air and water?Maybe if they had to start taking responsibility for they're actions they would think twice about that cheap labor they so drastically recruit in these poor countries while they make the people's land unlivable so the immigrate here.

LC...it's in immigration because this is one of the reasons people illegally immigrate here.Wages and environmental concerns that cause them to leave in search of better.

Dog tricks, I am understanding in what you say, you are right right to say, if American companies or any country pours toxic chemicals into another countries waterways. To be fair and honest is the country allowing this, these countries mainly allow this to go on as their standards are far below what would be unacceptable in American. At the same time Should the particular company be responsible yes, Dog tricks they should be . These laws must be enforce by the country in question. I would believe for the countries to enforce these laws it would bring in much needed income while ordering the company to clean up their problems. Dog tricks I believe the high ranking officials aware of this know full well what is going on but decide to accept money to look the other way or those who report it, such workers are black balled. It is the company and country both. As well intended as your question is. The rich of any country main goal is to get more cash flowed back into the country.Dog tricks aside from what you wrote, If America , the rest of world applied pressure on Mexico and other countries saying they cannot not longer look the other way. Yes Dog Tricks I agree with you, NAFTA has done more damage than good. The worlds view should thia, apply pressure these countries to make changes so as to help all who live there to have better lives not more dangerous countries to live in. That's what I think.

Oh dear one... We foot the bill when foreign companies come here, establish a business, and pollute the environment. Millions of dollars in tax incentives to come to a particular area to build, and employ people of that region. Then when they don't get another millions of dollars in tax incentives to remain or stay, they pack up and leave. Then we as American tax payers in that location end up footing the clean-up bill. HYNIX (formerly Hyundai) is one for example. SONY is another. Only SONY got an additional tax incentive to stay with the agreement to keep on 300 employees. Within the month employees were laid off, and SONY took the money and ran.

So we as American Tax Payers get the shaft coming and going, no matter whose, or where ones business is located. Foreign or an American business for that matter

People and companies outsource to tap into a cheaper labor market, to lower costs, production of a product is moved aboard. Anyone who lives in the UK, knows when you phone up your local bank or a local company you get put through to customer services in India! And for example, 'the Potteries', Stoke on Trent, Staffordshire, UK; do not make china any more, it is outsourced. (Wedgewood, Spode China etc)

So this problem is occurring in the richer countries. Problem is one day, we are going to be the cheapest, as shown in the Dilbert cartoon below.

There have been a number of cartoons done by Dilbert by Scott Adams on out sourcing, I can not find alot of them but here is a link to a funny one,

Where we (the US) outsource to the Indians, who outsource to the Mexicans, who outsource to Vietnam who outsource to the Philippines...who outsource to us in the US!

The American Taxpayer shouldn't have to foot the bill. The middle class is overburdened as is and should not have to pay for the greed of Corporate America and all the fallout from outsourcing, migration or so called free trade.

Hi Dog Tricks,

You're a good contributor and I like many of your comments. I just have to disagree here with you a bit.

I can see that I'm getting a few "thumbs down" from the nutty left wingers. It's makes me sad because that means that this problem is only going to get worse, you can hate what I say but until you all stop buying at Wal Mart this outsourcing thing is here to stay. Can't you people see you are creating this?!!!

People in the US simply can't afford to buy only US made products & services.

The reason companies outsource (I'm getting ready to fly to India this month to outsouce a bunch of stuff that I would very very very much like to keep here in the US) is because the US is so anti-business.

I live in Mexifornia. The hard left in this state wants all the money from business for their social programs for illegals and endangerred dung beattles and such, but they hate business. This leads to a cycle of increased regulation and taxation. High taxes simply will eventually kill any business and any lucky enough to suruve very long will flee, that's all you are seeing here.

Taxes and regulation COST MONEY. It isn't like there all these fat white guys smoking cigars in the back room around piles of money and feasting on orphans that we need the hard left to come in and tax to "pay their fair share".

Who in the world do you think that US corporations employ? They are employing millions of Americans. I mean as I read these responses I just know most of you go to Starbucks (isn't that an evil corporation too?) How about Mister Marketing Sociopath Himself; Steve Jobs over at Apple (met him before, real nut case). Apple is an Evil corporation...right?...

These worthless parasitic goverment guys come in and they make crazy regulations and raise taxes way too much. Couple this with a price competative market and you have to find another place to get the work done.

You can't let a person go who starts trash fires inside the office in California without talking to nine lawyers. The tax rates on employers in Mexifornia are just outrageous with social security and all the other withholding. Hiring people in Mexifornia almost never makes sense when you can get it done somewhere else more cheaply, why? Because you won't pay for my products at the prices I'd have to charge you if it was all done here.

Now as for all the lead and mecury and other toxins that isn't generally the US company doing that overseas. that is done by the local companies and as much as the legislature of Mexifornia thinks that sunshine shoots out of its *** they can't tell the Chinese or the Mexicans what to do. Ever buy Mexican Chilis in the Super Market? Better not they are LOADED with LEAD. The Mexican farmers use old car battery parts to get higher weight from their bags of dried chilis (and lead) at the market.

The problem you speak of above was caused by the hard left trying to legislate their little Maxist Utopia in the US. It failed like it always does and market forces which always win and should win unless you want to starve naked in the cold and the dark, had to move operations away from the crazy people to survive.

We in the US who have been FORCED to outsouce when we set up operations overseas, set up facilities that by local standards (and even many US standards) are palaces. Yet the media here goes to some sewer that a local company owns and acts like this is somethign new for them.

Have you travelled to India, throughout Mexico or Southeast Asia? It might surprise you when you see the truth. What you see and read here is only occassionally the truth.

It all comes down to the all mighty dollar and it always will. The greedy majority of the human race will eventually indirectly kill itself and possibly take everything else with it. The only thing people who try to help can do is prolong it for as long as possible. It is very sad but inevitable.

Why is this question in immigration?

You liberals are the cause for the problem you are complaining about. The reason companies move or out source is because the cost of labor from excessive labor union demands and the cost of excessive environmental regulations from the EPA. When a company cannot expand its operation because the darter snail is on the endangered species list then the company moves. If the cost of labor increases because of labor union extortion tactics then the company moves. If you look at all the major labor union jobs like the steel industry, long shore-men, automobile workers they are all in danger because excessive union demands and environmental restrictions.

I agree that we should hold the companies accountable and the taxpayers should not be required to bail them out. Companies that outsource our jobs and information should be taxed and charged penalties for outsourcing. Also, they should be subjected to stricter investigation of their actions and stricter enforcement as regards the information they are allowed to send out of the country. Punish the offenders and ensure that we take care of the USA first and foremost. Let the others take care of themselves or get our leftovers!

you almost make it sound like a good idea. this is not to say you are wrong. i'm totally with you here, but thinking on a scale that my gradkids will no doubt understand one day....

our little corner of the world is in pretty good shape, compared to many others, due to the prospect of moving out and dirtying up somewhere else. follow me? unemployment is "low" so who's gonna complain? my words here probably can't do justice to what i'm trying to say.

Those major companies are the ones who give all their money to politicians. Just look at all of George W. Bush's sponsers: I think that most of them are rich business people. If politicians are funded by those businesses, then they can get away with what they're doing at our expense.

I know, it's pathetic. Thankfully, we have people out there like Lou Dobbs who draw the public's attention to issues like this.
