If you have heard this you are the first person I know that has heard this. I am in the military and have not have heard anything about it. I think we are just fine right now. I would not start to worry until you you Congress start to vote on it.

All branches continue to meet or exceed their goals for enlistment and retention each month. The Air Guard is lagging somewhat because Operation Noble Eagle (defense of the homeland) is increasing their operational tempo. But, there will be no draft.

well the president and the military says that it still has enough volunteers to have a volunteer-based military. No one really knows how the draft would work and there are no regulations on how it would run. I think the only way it could get passed was if there was another large scale attack on the U.S. Currently, there is not enough support for the war.

The link below describes the situation very well. It was not written by a General, but the message is clear and correct.
We will not be able to maintain troop levels in Iraq past next spring. Our military has been over extended and the guard and reserve exploited. Their retirement is at age 60 and it takes them 7 years to earn one year of retirement at 2.5% per year. Also, Iraq has promoted terrorism and has not served to fight terrorism around the world.

the numbers do not lie. if the 30 k troop surge are pulled out by march 08, then deployments will have to be extended to 18 months. if the war extends into 09 and beyond you will have people on 4th tours and up. in this scenario retention will be severely compromised and recruiting will be very very hard (both already are).
so, in that situation what is the next logical answer?

The Democrats would have to pass it though congress. If they really are against the war they would never do it. If they are just using the war as a political tool, then maybe.
