Do you like your name Christian? Just kidding. Last night I went into yahoo answers the religion section, and found a lot, and I mean a lot of Cristians patronizing and criticizing other religions.

Are there any christians out there who don't do that? Who respect other religions and can answer without writing Bible chapters all over yahoo answers?

If you're not one of these, please, please do not answer, do like Christ said, "don't do unto others what you don't want they do to you" (I don't know how it's written in the english translation, my main language is spanish, so I'm translating from spanish). So if you don't want other people crticizing you and your point of view, don't do it to me please. Thanks.

Yes, I would like to consider myself one of those Chrisians. I might not agree with the beliefs of others, but no one deserves to be criticized for their beliefs. The best I can do is offer my own experiences and advice to others genuinely seeking it.

Well you did good with the translation because my Mom always tells me that same saying sometimes. I never knew it was from the bible. Christians do criticize too much. I think there are weird believes but it's there choice. I think Jewish people have the weird belief today of Rosh Hashana to starve themselves but that's to me. But everyone has a reason to believe in something. But I don't care because I have a nice day off of school today. I think for Christians it's weird that Sabbath is on Sunday because it's the first day of the week not the seventh. Also I hate Sunday because it's the day before school and hardly anything happens on Sunday nor is any place open. Plus church is boring and I could be doing something better and more entertaining with my free time. I am saying all religions are a bit weird. You just have to find the religion that's right for you. People have religion to find meaning in life and a purpose for life. A lot of Christians would criticize that I believe in evolution. I just find it to be a bit more understanding and it makes sense to me. I do believe in God but I am not very religious.

Christ also said "I am the way, the truth, and the life none may come to the Father but through me." Some lose sight of the fact that our Lord was always compassionate, always caring, and always loving. We have been given A Great Commission to spread the word of GOD. If this is done without therefore mentioned attributes , Christians can and often do come across as patronizing and condescending. And, yes I am proud to bear the name Christian.

The saying you're looking for is "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." Good job translating, though. You were very close.

I wasn't on last night, so I don't know how things were. But I'm pretty tolerant of other people and their religions, or at least, I like to think I am. I can be a little saucy on here at times, but most of the time I'm pretty nice. And I very rarely quote the Bible unless it's relevant.

Many people claim to be what they are not. It's called being a hypocrite, which literally means someone who claims to believe in something they don't really believe in. And many are hypocrites by proxy. Not that they do it intentionally. But because they simply don't take the time to find out what it is they are supposed to believe.
It took me a long time to stop condemning religion because of human failings. As religion is just the practical application of spiritual concepts into our daily lives. Doing something "religiously" means doing it on a routine basis.
Things like associating with positive people. Reading and listening to motivational and inspirational material. And prayer, which keeps the the doors of telepathic communication open to the Higher Worlds.

It's true that many Christians criticize other people's religions, but all of us do. The current pope, Benedict the sixteenth, said that the muslim's god was a blood thirsty person and they got really mad. But the Jewish people criticize us and we criticize them and it goes in a circle because everyone wants to think that they are the ones who are right and the other people are wrong. Sometimes I make fun of my friends who are hindu. I tell them, you know, it's impossible to have twelve gods, and I feel kinda silly telling them this because it's so obvious. But then I realize that I am doing something wrong by forcing them to believe in something they are not fond of. When Jesus comes again, everyone will bow before him and know the truth. I wait for that day. And if you are spanish, most spanish people are Catholic so why are you criticizng your own religion if you are Christian??? Anyways, interesting question.

I am a J.W. of 17 years standing.
And a bit of a cynic.
If anyone can come along and show me from scripture where I am going wrong, I will listen keenly. In 17 years I cannot fault what I have learnt.
Example; the bible says to abstain from blood. I refuse blood transfusions.
the Bible states this;
(Matthew 28:19-20) Go therefore and make disciples of people of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the holy spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all the things I have commanded YOU. And, look! I am with YOU all the days until the conclusion of the system of things.”

I preach to people.
(Acts 5:42) And every day in the temple and from house to house they continued without letup teaching and declaring the good news about the Christ, Jesus.

I go house to house.

(John 5:19) Therefore, in answer, Jesus went on to say to them: “Most truly I say to YOU, The Son cannot do a single thing of his own initiative, but only what he beholds the Father doing. For whatever things that One does, these things the Son also does in like manner.

Believing this, I regard Jesus as God's son.

Proverbs 8; 22-31...How Jesus was created.
The 'firstborn' of creation'.

I use God's name
....YHWH...YaHWeH...[English] Jehovah

(Exodus 6:3) And I used to appear to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob as God Almighty, but as respects my name Jehovah I did not make myself known to them.

A clear separation between title and name.

And on I go....

Oh! by the way...what is preached is the Kingdom, you know, the one we pray about at;
(Matthew 6:9-10) “YOU must pray, then, this way: “‘Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified. 10 Let your kingdom come. Let your will take place, as in heaven, also upon earth.

I would rather be called a follower of Jesus Christ, because the word Christian is used in many different religious denominations. God sent Jesus for all of us to follow, Jesus went into temples and synagogues and even town streets and mountain tops trying to teach us his way and that is just believe in the father through him. Jesus was not a religion, he was the son of man, our brother, he didn't belong to an organization only the Father in Heaven.

I agree with you that many Christians, in their eagerness to get out the message of the gospel may rely too much on quoting holy scriptures to folks who don't necessarily believe that those writings are of God and proof of the validity of the Christian belief. We Christians do believe that all holy scripture is good and educational while being a guide to how we must act. All of us fail to one extent or another due to our human weaknesses. I believe in Christ as my savior and I believe that He is the only way for me to know God. I do not attempt to judge whether or not God has provided other means to salvation for other people but I encourage all people to accept Christ because I am confident that that path works.
I do find it interesting that you quoted our bible in your question.

How can anyone who truly understands the gospel, not speak against religion? There is only one way to heaven and that is through our savior Jesus Christ. NO ifs, ands, or buts. If that wasn't true then there would have been no reason for Christ to sacrifice HIMSELF the way HE did. The fact is most people are hell bound.

Good point, I have noticed this as well. Jesus, which by the way is same in spanish and english preached to all and he did so without insulting and withour badgering. Those who wanted to follow him did so freely, and those who did not went on their way, without a single word of disgust or hatred from the Savior himself.
That is the reason for His coming to show us how we are to act, but many think that they have to be the way they are.
May God keep you and bless you always (Que nuestro Señor te bendiga siempre)
