I really enjoyed "The Nativity" that came out late last year.
The story feels very real; the actors are extraordinary. It transports the viewer culturally and historically.
One challenge for movies, such as this one, that take the script from the Bible is that the Gospels appear to include only an outline of what was said -- there are just not enough words for a typical movie dialog. Of all Bible based movies I have seen, this one stood out at maintaining momentum and entertainment in spite of this problem.
Note: the movie includes scenes implied by the Bible, not only those described in scripture.

None of these are particularly fun to see, and I don't think I've seen any of them. The one I would recommend which is historically accurate but is far from "fun" is "The Passion of the Christ". This movie will show you little of the crucifixion, which is what saved the earth, and much of what Christ went through before the cross.
People fail to realize the agony that Jesus went through even before the nails were pounded in. He gave more blood before The place of the Skull, than on the cross.

I am 62 years old now. When I was a kid we went to the movies to see "THE TEN COMMANDMENTS" with Charlton Heston, and a cast of many stars that were well known at that time. You can rent the video. Excellent movie!

Another movie that is certainly not as clearly about Jesus, but does show His church in a good light and in my opinion, points to Him...is "Becasue of Winn Dixie".
Facing the Giants Rocks.

We just watched the Gospel of John. Wonderful movie. It is basically the Book of John acted out. It is fantastic.........
It is wonderful to know that you don't have to fast forward through an offensive scene. How refreshing....
