It says in 1Thessalonianians 5:11-12This should be your ambition: to live a quiet life, minding your own business, working with your hands, just as we commanded you before. As a result, people who are not Christians will respect the way you live and you will not need to depend on others to meet your financial needs.
So why do Christians still feel its their business to rebuke people for the way they live when clearly they are to lead by example?

DL: Those quotes are for Christians rebuking other Christians, not for Chistians rebuking the non-Christians.

You would have to look deeper into Scripture and see what all of scripture has to say on the subject as a whole.
It would seem that there are times to mind your own business and then there are times to correct and restore other believers. The following passages are about rebuking and correcting. We are not to judge non-believers by God's standards, God will judge them.
These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you. Titus 2:15
Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted. Gal. 6:1
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 2 Tim 3:16
Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent. Rev. 3:19

For the most part, a lot of Christians do this. They just work hard, support their families, try to live a good life and are in general fair minded and tolerant people.
The problem is that the ones who ARE NOT LIKE THIS, are far more vocal and have been given far too much media coverage and political influence.
The extremists also bully and condemn the moderate and fair minded Christians all the time and tell them they are not "Real Christians". They use all kinds of scare tactics to make them feel like they are persectuted, under threat, being denied the right to pray, worship etc and their families and faith will be harmed by the presense of gay people, non-Christians and in some cases non-whites.
I see it a lot in the South where I live. I even fell out with my Christian neighbour (we since made up) for that. She and I were fine even though we believe differently. As soon as the political church drive hit her church, last election she started to act wierd and inconsiderate, like she did not know me.
I called her out on that bullS**t right away and she realized she was being silly and allowing people to scare her into acting intolerant and judgemental in the name of religion.

What version of what bible are you reading from? Or are you just making up your own verses to bash Christianity? In my bible, it says...
1 Thessalonians 5:11-12
11Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. 12Now we ask you, brothers, to respect those who work hard among you, who are over you in the Lord and who admonish you.
And, it IS our business to tell everyone we can about Jesus' sacrifice and forgiveness of sins.
Mark 16:15-16
15He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. 16Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
So that's what we are doing. Have a good day.

I am a 'Christian', I do not rebuke people, and I usually do mind my own business. There are bossy, irritating, annoying people in every religion, at least in my opinion.
Of course there are probably many 'Christians' who would be appalled to really know what I believe completely, so I am probably more tolerant of others because I don't really feel that I fit well in the 'Christian' category. (make sense? LOL!)

it's not their business to rebuke the lost, no way. rebuking is done between believers, like within a family. it makes no sense to rebuke people who don't know any better!
but the scripture you quote is right. however, remember the parable of the good samaritan...we also cannot just walk by when we see the lost suffering...our help shouldn't take the form of rebuke, however, it should be given in love...

Well first of all, I don't depend on you for my financial needs nor do millions of other Christians and secondly, history tells us that leaving Christians, as well as other believers, to their own peaceful life isn't going to happen either. Study your history concerning world religion. Religions have been at each others throats for centuries and non-believers have been right in the middle of it as well.

Exactly right. Lead by example.
The way so many Christians walk around, self-righteously judging and mocking people, and harassing them to believe and certain way, and threatening with with hellfire, does NOT make me want to sign up for their religion.

You said it better than anyone I know. If a so called Christian is disobeying this command then either they are sinning or they are just professing Christians. Not everyone that says that they are a Christian is one.

This is exactly why they invented the "State of Grace Theory". Since they can sin now and pray later, they can do whatever they want, and still go to magical heaven.

Because most Christians are brain washed in their homes/societies and do not take the time to read the Bible themselves. Actually, in the Orthodox church that is considered a sin, they say one should not read the Bible because we are not able to understand it. Hence it should be left to Church people exclusively!
