MAPLE. [Acer campastre, family Aceraceae] A small tree which sometimes grows as a bush in hedges. It has opposite, usually 5-lobed leaves, which are like those of sycamore,to which it is related, except they are smaller and the lobes more rounded. The upper surface of the leaves is dark green, and the lower surface is paler and somewhat hairy. They turn bright red and yellow in autumn. The greenish male and female flowers point upwards. They consist of 5 tiny sepals and petals,8 stamens in the male flowers and an ovary with 2 styles in the female. The winged fruits are carried away by the wind. Maple is common in hedges and woods, especially on chalky soils,in SE England and the midlands;rareelsewhere in Britain. The stems contain a sugary sap, which in the Sugar Maples of nrth America is extracted for syrup. The wood is very ornamental and has been used to make bowls, furniture etc. [May-June]

Technically, the respond is E.) not one of the above. Acer is the genus call and Acer rubrum is the species call. The observe rubrum is the particular epithet. it truly is in many cases suggested as the species call, yet devoid of the Acer area it purely ability pink. different pink organisms may be Xxxxx rubrum, yet no longer something may be Acer rubrum.
