I believe in God but I do not believe God is a person in the sky. I believe that God is the first cause and ground of being, the only real thing that exists. So I guess this is the God of Abraham because I don't think other gods or anything else really exists besides it. This is called nondualism. I believe that the many conceptions of God and the so many religions are different ways of explaining a prototypical idea or "truth" that arises in the human mind. An ancient adage says "Truth is one; the wise know that it goes by many names." I believe this.
I believe that people are born or can become "enlightened>" Some people call enlightened people "incarnations of God" Some religions believe in 1 incarnations, some believe in many. That's not my problem. My problem (challenge) is to become an incarnation as well. Also, the historical veracity of the Biblical Christ is sketchy --still I think it refers to something signficant that was happening at the turn of that millenium.
People do not "worship" stone idols. They contemplate and are devoted to their symbols and forms of God and the divine--just like Christians contemplate, prayer and worship images of Christ or other iconographic images.
Have you ever walked into a sermon given by a Hindu priest , swami or orator? I have. It's quite boring. The sermons sound just like sermons given by Christian pastors: be devoted to God, be kind to other people (no fire and brimstone or hate messages, though, honey).
I hope this has shed some light on the issue.

I don't believe there is any data either way concerning god. I have absolutely NO reason to believe Jesus is the son of something that probably does not exist. I don't know why people worship Idols carved in stone, wood, gold, why do you? I am agnostic-atheist, I don't know for sure if there is a god and neither do you. Pascal's Wager only proves that there is doubt among believers.

I look at it like this.
Throughout the long history of mankind, ever since he could string some thoughts together, he has been really scared. He didn't understand much of what we take for granted today. Thunder and lightning storms were just too much to handle and that's just one example.
So, like a very young child, he needed a father figure to protect him. he also figured that he should worship such gods and sacrifice living beings to appease the gods.
Thus gods were invented and they were very popular!!. The vastly-undereducated population lapped up the idea. They WANTED it to be true.
Many many gods have 'existed' during history and ALL have been man-made inventions. All have been deemed fake otherwise you would believe in Ra and Zeus and Thor, etc.
Suddenly, out of the blue, as if waiting for the right moment to reveal himself, a new god appears.
Since every previous god has been an invention of man, why should this one be any different? I can see no reason whatsoever why this one (and there are many more than one claimed to be real right now) is any the more realistic than those that preceded it.
No evidence at all, not one spot, is available to suggest otherwise.
Is it really sensible for modern man to cling to ancient lies?
Is it not really well overdue that modern man should dump the god-concept altogether?
Are you really suggesting that anyone with a fully-functioning brain in the year 2007 should believe in a fictional character with such faith without being pitied for their ignorance?
Are those parents who willingly indoctrinate their very impressionable young children with this nonsense really doing them a favour?
Are YOU telling me that you really believe that Adam and Eve were real people???
Are you aware that J.Christ may not even have existed?
Can't you see that you are a victim of a very old confidence trick? A scam?

first i would like to say that i am not an atheist because i don not like being confined to a definition of a word. So if i see a god i will believe there is one.
Next, if i do not believe in a god and it wants to send me to hell that's not very nice, since there is no proof that on exists. And a book isnt proof at all. I would not idol something that doesnt like me for trying to have an open mind.
I have a question for you if adam and eve were the first two humans that means we are all incest (or however you spell it). and you cannot shun upon those people who date thier cusions....gag....

Well, Luv, I don't worship anything even though I am a pagan.... so right off the bat you know nothing about me. I honor my gods. I see no difference in having a representation of my gods and goddesses on my altar or you having a dead guy on a cross hanging over your altar at church. An idol is an idol. I don't believe in your god because there is no sense in a god who supposedly loves us all yet if we don't do what he says will throw us into the lake of fire. That's more like a bratty kid who doesn't get his way. I don't need that kind of deity. I look for something positive rather than threats and fearmongering.

confident, there is not any data what so ever. Your Bible which you replica and pasted above is guy written, and written properly after Christ advance into born and died. there is not any reality, and no thank you to instruct the Bible to be genuine. this is going to take so plenty extra suitable than Blind faith to make me have self assurance interior the invisible guy interior the clouds. Plus the shown fact that the Jesus delusion is a rip off of maximum of different saviors and God(s) this is no longer even humorous, no longer something is unique approximately your faith, that's a patchwork of many others with a label asserting this is the only way !! that's comprehensive BS in case you inquire from me!! i choose evidence, the Bible i'm sorry isn't evidence

1.) There is no evidence at all for the existence of Jehovah.
2.) Any god that would send people to hell simply because they didn't believe in something, when there is no evidence that it exists, is either evil or insane. This is doubly true when the people that would be sent to hell are perfectly normal, kind people.
3.) Any reasonably sane god would have made Adam and Eve infertile after they first committed their "sin" of eating a certain kind of fruit. Allowing Adam and Eve to reproduce after they had supposedly "fallen" was the height of incompetence on God's part. It took a bad situation and made it BILLIONS of times worse. Why would anyone want to believe in a god who was that incredibly stupid? That type of behavior pretty much moves Jehovah out of the category of "God" and moves him into the category of "Buffoon".
4.) Jehovah supposedly ordered the Israelites to commit genocide on numerous occasions. In case you didn't know, genocide is classified as one of the worst international crimes. Personally, I wouldn't want to worship a god who is more immoral than the average human. Anyone who orders his followers to commit genocide is at the same moral level as Adolf Hitler.
5.) Many, many more reasons....

Why do you believe? Because you are:
a) afraid of death and afterward
b) have been brainwashed
c) need conformation that your life is not meaningless
d) have questions about life (the meaning of it etc)
e) all of the above
Frankly I'm not afraid of death and don't believe in the afterlife, I have not been brainwashed into believing something just because an old storybook told me about a man who had the answers to everything and I know my life is almost meaningless in evolution BUT to me my life is priceless, and I have come to terms with the meaning of life to me.
But the main reason I don't believe is that the bible is FULL of contradictions, it's disgusting and science has ACTUALLY proved some questions in the world, and has contradicted the Bible's "made in 7 days" crap.

What makes you think that your God is the right one?
What makes you think that Jesus Christ is worthy of worship, let alone the child of an invisible, intangible being?
Why do assume that those idols are not actual representations of gods as real as your own?
