OK, I can understand my 4 year old crying when she wants something, but my wife does it too...Is it fair that she will cry if she is upset, or wants me to do something for her?

Your wife shouldn't cry over something she's not going to get. I can understand if its something big, but something little like going shopping for furniture or stuff, she shouldn't cry, she should know that you guys cant get it and understand it too.

Crying is and emotion that most people take as it is. If your wife is crying to pull at your heart strings then don't, if you do, give her what she wants all the time. If her crying is legit then there is a deeper problem. It may be a problem that she has or something in your relationship.

There's nothing unfair in showing emotion. But there's a difference between admitting to disappointment or unhappiness and actually demanding that such emotions take precedent over others opinions.

On the other hand, whilst we can't alter our emotions per se we can still alter the attitudes behind our emotions. If your wife makes unreasonable demands, you should talk to her about her obstinacy. If she accepts others opinions but is still upset, then she's doing everything she reasonably can.

If she does it to manipulate, though, that's something entirely different. Emotional blackmail is not acceptable, period.

Is expecting her to not do something she has no control over, fair? You could head the crying off by doing what she wants you to do, and stop upsetting her.

People cry, but IF she’s crying merely to get you to agree to what she wants (and I’ve known a few women who do that--but it’s been very few), then she’s being manipulative.

Source: ME--a woman who is too mature to resort to such childish behavior to get what I want.
