alex died O.O
wow. now that is a shame, that bird helped us realise so much into how the minds of parrots work, and helped show their true intelligance. wow. that is a real shock!
poor thing
i saw a video of him in action somewhere, where the lady held out 4 keys each a different colour and made froma differnt material, she would ask hte bird to point out say the orange one, and it would go straight to it, if asked to find the metal one, it would go along them all and touch each with his beak to try and identify the metal. it was amazing.
ive been after the book of the alex studies for ages lol, i love his story, i have a grey myself and after seeing that showed me jsut how amazing they truly could be.

I did know Alex. He was an intelligent bird who also was very stressed. He was a feather plucker. Irene would travel and he would not handle that well. He loved her soooo much. Her other two Grey's are a treasure as well but Alex was her first, bought at a pet shop 30 years ago. His days were long in the lab, as the article said, 8 to 12 hours EVERY day of his life. Sometimes he would start throwing the keys, blocks, what ever his training tools were to say I've had enough. Irene and her staff are overwhelmed by the loss and I truly feel for them. They say they feel as if they've lost a colleague, I think Alex was a lot more than that, he was a true friend and a loving companion. As smart as our Grey's are, let's not forget that they deserve to enjoy life and let's make their stay with us as pleasant as we possible can.

I know! Alex is the reason I got my Mikki, I picked him out when he was a little fur ball. Mikki never learned as much as Alex but he did learn a lot! Alex and Irene Pepperberg are my hero's! I'll miss the new things that they do together! :0(

You're only a week late in reporting this. And this isn't really the place to be posting such an announcement. Its more for forums. Because we can't give you an ANSWER to your question other then "Yes." (Or "no" depending.. )
They also don't have a definative reason for his death, he was only 31.
