I go to a high school with almost 3000 students. There is so much traffic to get to the school on time because we have buses and driving seniors. As a matter of fact more people get there late than early. The prinipal has issued a new rule. Any person late to homeroom will get a detention. So this means traffic isnt an excuse, the fact that our school is massive isnt an excuse, oversleeping isnt an excuse, car breakdown or accident, is no excuse .. pretty much the only excuses are if your on the bus or you have a doctors note. Now I have never had a detention in my life and I'll be damned if I have to have one because I was running a little late one morning. No ones perfect! Do you think this policy is fair?

So who says it is supposed to be fair?

His goal is to get all students to school on time. It is up to you to get there on time.

The world does not stop because you are having a bad hair day and just can't get moving.

What if you needed a life saving medical procedure and the Doc, just could not make it there because he was just "running a little late one morning."

It is a very common policy in schools where lateness has become an issue. You may just have to leave home a little earlier to get to class on time. Look at it this way - when you enter the world of work, your employer won't care that traffic was heavy or if you overslept - if you are late, you'll lose pay or be reprimanded or maybe even lose your job.

All high schools have that rule. If they didn't , students would show up for school when they got good and ready. When I was at the university, some professors closed the door the minute the class was starting and you weren't allowed to enter... even if was a few seconds. So, while you may not like it, it's the rule and you'll have to find a way to adjust.

yep, what they all said.

Once you get to college you won't have professors who care why you were late to their class. I've had some that say if you're late, just don't come.

Once you get into the work world, being late will cost you a job. It's just the way things are in the real world.

It's actually more than fair - If I were the principal the rule would be "you can be late once - the second time you no longer have the privilege of driving on my campus" Your principal is actually nice with his rule.

Life is not fair. Nothing in this world caters to you. You either go with it or accept the consequences.
