my mum passed away just over a year ago leaving just, my dad, my 20 year old brother and myself together in the house.

This year im finishing school and i want to go travelling with my boyfriend, my brother also has a girlfriend and he is at university so isnt at home much. My eldest brother who is 26 comes over sometimes but he is also busy.

I dont want my dad to be at home by himself because thats unfair but i also want to do my own thing for a while. What can i do?

Maybe that is what he is thinking... are these kids ever going to leave.... Some alone time will do him some good... he can find himself again... and maybe move forward...

Just say hey dad we its time for me to be my own person... i just want to know one thing... will you be OK.... then you can travel and be your own person... parents love to see their kids grow... and mold into an adult... even with a loss of a spouse...

You ever think maybe your Dad wouldn't mind being alone for a little while? He is a grown man and can likely take care of himself. Does he have any friends? He might really be ok with having some alone time. Ask him.

I think you should encourage a hobby. Something social, where he can make friends and be around others. If he's ready to meet someone, this would be a great place for him to find someone with similar interest while keeping him from staying secluded in his house. If he's not ready to find a new mate, he will still enjoy himself with friends. :)

Your dad is a grown up. He'll be fine, maybe he'll get back his life before he had kids.
