According to the FDA's Center for Drug Evluation and Research, tetracyclines do not interfere with organogenesis. However, the data are limited to a few subjects.

Tetracyclines are generally not given to pregnant women because it causes an unsightly yellow staining of the primary teeth in the infant.

The biggest thing the medical profession worries about with Tetracycline, is tooth discoloration, which is mostly a cosmetic issue.

It is also thought to cause problems with Bones which seems to be limited to the duration of exposure, whereas the tooth graying is permanent.
