What if after 25 races, the next 10 races were "double points", and the final race was worth "triple" points? Sounds crazy I agree, but not anymore than taking the points from the first 26 races and starting over for the final 10. At least with this crazy idea the points you make in the 1st twenty five races still count for something but it makes ALL the drivers have a chance to possibly catch up and/or win. And it makes the final race extremely important! LOL Just a thought....

I hear consistency a lot... but you forget that the chase is not about consistency. It is only about the final 10 races. The driver in 12th place was not consistently good for 26 races.... he was just not as bad as 50 other drivers who didn't make it. The old system was the system that was the most dedicated to consistency as it took all the races and whoever had the most points won. That counted ALL races, not the last 10 or the first 26. So if you want to talk about consistency, let's talk old school.

And for the record.... I am NOT a fan of the Chase in any way. But since people are always saying that NASCAR needs a "playoff" and it helps ratings, then I just throw out this idea. It was just a thought, I didn't even know if it was a good one. LOL But most people agree, the chase sucks unless their driver sucks and needs the chase to have a chance of winning a championship!

As an old school Nascar fan I would prefer that they go back to the old point system.

As the worst broadcaster in racing to date would say, "I'll Tell You What." The chase is a good idea, however 12 drivers is just too much, and so it 10 in my opinion, like a workld series, only 2 teams get to compete, and this should be no different, and who cares how many wins a driver has, in the past, wins do not constitute championships, consistancy gets you a championship, look at at Khane and Edwards a couple of years back, winning races in both series, and neither one was even close at the end. It should be at the most 7 teams, but I would prefer 3 or 5 in the chase, and as it comes down to it, you know you will have only a couple unless they all have bad luck, or good luck, or just stay consistant, but there is not way a guy running in 10th let alone 12th should be the champion at the end of the year because he managed to stay out of trouble for 10 races. Look at Junior, yeah I love the guy, but he had no business making the chase with 6 DNF's...when Gordon, ran top 10 24 of 25 races, now Gordon did not even get the top seed, when he clearly had the best season, enough of my rant, I got to get to work.

Get rid of this chase crap, I;m a old school nascar fan as well, go back to the way it use to be, what happens now if say someone like Bobby Labonte, gets hot and wins 6 of the last 10 races, he should have a shot at the championship, what if kasey kahne wins 6 and finishes 2nd the rest of the races, they are screwed... All drivers should have a chance, this chase is just a media blitz and something for the TV commentators to talk about... Nascar needs to go back to old school I'd say.. Heck at this point, I'd rather see the guy in 12th place get hot, boy would that piss the media blitz off, since they have pretty much already given the cup to Jimmy or Jeff... No I'm not pissed because Jr didn't make it... It needs to be fair for all drivers....They can dump the owners point crap as well..

I like the chase. I think when drivers get a solid lead in the points, and start to "big picture" race, that's when it gets boring. It's like watching a race where one leader dominates the whole time, then a caution comes out at the end, and bunches the Field up for a 10 lap shootout. That's when the good show happens.

I think anyone who won a race should get into the chase. At least that would put 43 cars out on the track each weekend trying to win. None of this "big picture" crap. Then, with 5 races to go, they should eliminate half the field.

By the way Big Rick, Jeff Gordon already got screwed out of his 5th title in 2003 - this year he is going to be screwed out of his 6th title.

Short tracks across America always have "Double Points" night. They usually get pretty wild. That could be interesting to have big events worth double points. I would reduce the chase to maybe 5 or 6 races, start 10 drivers in the chase, and eliminate one driver at each event. In any case, something does indeed need to change. The current system does indeed suck.

NOT, and not a good thought why would nascar be any different than any other sport, they all have some kind of championships lets just leave racing what it is , the best of the best race to win the championship they already screwed things up once. just leave will enough alone OK!

That is something to think about. However, I still think they should eliminate the chase. If they made it so everyone had to qualify on time (with no guaranteed starts) and everyone raced for points, then whoever gets the most points wins. Plain and simple. Unfortunately, that will never happen again. I just think it makes things much more fair for all.

I agree with some of the others. I have been watching enough years that i do NOT like the chase. The old system needs to come back.

I say do away with the chase system. The more I think about it, the less I like it. Jeff Gordon may get screwed this year from his 5th championship.

Also, do away with owner points. It's purpose is way out dated.
