Why? It is a proprietary device made by (or sub vended to) Motorola and probably patented. They (cell chargers) are not normally serviceable and are considered throw away units, except for the die-hards (such as me) that will cut the cord off when it quits working, and re-wire the darn thing. All they are is a step-down xformer and a voltage regulator/ ac/dc converter with minimal filtering to get the proper voltage and current rating to charge a specific battery.
