I have severe back stiffness in the morning with pain. I take perscription strength ibprorin and it eases up alittle. it does get better during the day but now I have noticed that the big toe on my left foot will not bend. I have not hurt it. It will just not bend at all. I was wondering if these two had anything in commmon? Any ideas on how to get my back less stiff so I can function in the morning?

Well, can't tell you about the toe, but I have 2 herniated disks, and the first thing to do is to make sure you do not sleep on your stomach. That can easily cause back pain. If you sleep on your back, place a pillow behind your knees, or if you sleep on your side, place the pillow between your knees. This helps keep your spine better aligned while you sleep.

While you should really see a doctor to find out the cause of your pain and the connection, if any, to the toe, most back pain is caused by weakened or deconditioned muscles. Following a program designed to strengthen your core (ab and back) muscles could make all the difference in the world. If interested, you might want to check out http://www.YourHealthyBack.com .

That sounds like arthritis. You should mention it to a doctor next time you visit, but it's probably not worth a special trip just for that.

Heat can sometimes help loosen things up a little more quickly. You know, like a heating pad or something.

Having stiffness in your toe would fit with the general arthritis theme, but it's not a given that those two things have the same cause.

Sleep patterns should be evaluated. Side sleepers should place a pillow between the knees to avoid excessive adduction (knees together), which can aggravate the shortened muscle and wake you up. Getting regular rest is also of great importance. Fatigue makes pain worse. Need more info? Check out associatedcontent.com - "Back Pain - Is it all in Your head?"

Sounds like you may have a pinched nerve and possible disc herniation of the spine. I am a huge believer of chiropractic and have been successfully treated for these symptoms. After treatment, you will find that you will not have the problems you are having now. Once your initial problem is resolved, go once a month to keep everything aligned.

check your water supply for some impurities including chlorine. Also there could be some foods you are allergic to and continue to eat . I had a similar problem with chemicals which was poison to my body and reacted. Creosote which is all around you with electric poles and railroad ties possibly in your yard for a retaining wall
