I've never made one before. Do I have to make my own piecrust or can I use a frozen pie shell?

Oh, its so easy to use the frozen. Hope you enjoy your pecan pie! May I offer you my no fail recipe.... it is tried and true!

********DEEP - DISH PECAN PIE
1 (9-in.) deep dish unbaked pie shell
3 eggs
1 c. dark corn syrup (may use light corn syrup)
1/2 c. sugar
1/4 c. butter
1 tbsp. vanilla
1 ½ c. pecans (may use walnuts)

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Beat eggs with whisk in medium bowl. Mix in corn syrup, sugar, butter and vanilla until well blended.
Spread pecans on bottom of pie shell. Pour egg mixture over pecans SLOWLY.
Bake 1 hour. Cool and serve. It's very good!

A pecan pie recipe with cream corn syrup, brown sugar, cinnamon, and prepared graham cracker crust.
INGREDIENTS:
7 tablespoons melted butter
2 large eggs
1/3 cup whipping cream or heavy cream
1/3 cup dark corn syrup
pinch salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
1 cup coarsely chopped pecans
1 prepared 8-inch graham cracker pie shell
sweetened whipped cream or vanilla ice cream
PREPARATION:
In a mixing bowl, combine the melted butter, eggs, whipping cream, corn syrup, salt, cinnamon, and brown sugar; mix well. Stir in pecans. Pour mixture into the prepared crust. Place pie on a baking sheet and bake in a preheated 350° oven for 30 minutes, or until top of pie is browned and puffy.

You can use frozen, but bake it for a few minutes before you put your filling in. And the best recipe for pecan pie is on the side of a bottle of Karo brand syrup. Make sure you measure accurately, it's easy to screw it up.

Use the frozen pie shell it is fast and easy and it comes out just fine.

You can use the frozen pie crust, buy the deep dish crust, the filling is very soupy...it firms up upon baking but you want to give it room...

I've used both home made crusts and store bought mixes and premade all are acceptable to use. Good luck hope this helps.

allrecipes.com, i love it! but, you can definitely taste the difference in a store-bought crust and a homemade one. if you feel you can do a good job making your own crust, go for it!
