I make my own dog food. Even though it is "human food" it's the only wet dog food he gets. Here's the ingredients:
Chop meat, brown rice, mixed veggies (you can buy it already mixed frozen) mix with dry food, I use Beneful. My dog is 80 lbs so I mix 16 oz of dry with 20 oz of wet.
According to my vet...he is getting all the necessary nutrients without the fat and chemicals.
BTW - my dog is now 15 and still acts like a puppy....well maybe not a puppy but a 5 yr old.

Unless your dog is sick, he will not starve himself. Buy a good premium dog food - yesterday I posted a list of dog foods that the AKC tested and rated according to their nutritional value for dogs. Then, offer him the food. Put it down for an hour. If he doesn't eat, take it up. Each day do the same thing. After a couple of days, he will be hungry and will begin to eat. BUT -you must NOT offer him ANY human food or treats during this process. He refuses his dog food because he is smart enough to know you will give him your food. Missing a couple of days of food will not hurt him, but it will make him hungry enough to eat what he is given. If that fails, take him to the vet. There may be a medical reason. In fact, you may want to take him to the vet first to be sure.

My vet said that for a dog that won't eat, put a little water in it and warm it up. Kibble is coated in flavoring, and when warmed, it releases moer flavor. Also, when my parents dog had a jaw infection and wouldn't eat, the vet sugguested they mix a litttle baby food (like Gerber) with the dog food and warm it. It helps soften it and make it more appealing....the problem with that though, is she is now 3 and refuses to eat food that has not been warmed. So, it's kind of a catch 22. Good luck

Did you feed your dog human food before giving it dog food when you got it? because i did that with my dog and now he looks like hes anerexic because he just refuses to eat anything but human food. So if your dog is "spoiled" like mine is then i would suggest mixing the dog food and human food together and then slowly increasing the amount of dog food in the mix. If thats not the case then if you havent tried canned dog food then maybe you should do that.

he probably isnt eating his food BECAUSE youare giving him people food.. he knows if he waits long enough you will give in and feed him people food...
What kinds of dog food have you tried??
Small dogs need SMALL pieces of dry food and tend to be spoiled by owners giving them canned - so often they refuse to eat their dry
offer a PREMIUM LEVEL dry food and be firm - dont offer anything else.. eventually the dog will decide to eat..
PREMIUM LEVEL foods are NOT sold in grocery stores or Wal Marts - they DO NOT use by-products (beaks feet feathers)
put the food in the microwave for 15 seconds to bring out the oils and flavors... and make it smell yummier..
if he isnt eating - have his teeth checked by a vet.. could be pain in his teeth...
