I believe, medically speaking, that a burp is simply when a little gas is released through the mouth.

A belch, on the other hand, is much more severe. This is the one you really feel in your gut as it makes its way up your throat and ultimately out your mouth. This is the one that leaves no doubt for the people around you, what you have just had to eat. In the most extreme cases, this stench will linger in the air around you for over a minute. I recommend leaving the area immediately after belching and trying to pin the blame on someone else.

A burp is almost silent and unobtrusive. A belch is usually loud and prolonged. But they're the same thing, releasing gas from the stomach.
