OK!!! Who else gets p!ssed when you see a Mexican (or any other foreign person) who you know understands and speaks English just fine, act like they don't understand it at all when they for example are getting a parking ticket? I saw this happen yesterday at work, could not believe it! I wanted to just walk up to the officer and say hey, 15 minutes ago in my office that person was speaking English just fine!!! That is so wrong to do! Don't immigrants realize that it is things like this , that perpetuate stereotypes and make them less liked? Who else agrees or disagrees?

If you have a day to kill, drop on by your local Welfare Office. You'll see your question in action.

You should have.

Seriously! I'm not saying what my opinions on immigration are one way or the other, but as a law abiding citizen, when you see someone else (regardless of their status) flouting the law in such an obvious way, you saying nothing is morally very close to you conspiring with that person to disobey the law.

Not only that, but if people realize that others won't stand for it, and that it will actually make things worse, they won't do it.

Don't be annoyed. Be a good citizen.

That being said, under duress, many people will lose facility in non-first languages. As people get seriously older, they may lose the ability to speak a second language completely.

So you really want to be sure they are "faking" it and now completely flustered by facing the police (even if the thing they are facing the police for is trivial).

If you consider how many immigrants are in America, this really doesn't happen that often, relatively speaking. It is no worse than a white, American citizen pretending like they are sick or having a poor, dying grandma or some b.s. like that. I mean, really, how many times have you really seen this happen, unless you're in a position where you are seeing hundreds of Mexicans every day?

That said, I agree with you that it perpetuates stereotypes when it does happen, and I do not like it when some of them do it. And what is worse, it probably doesn't help. If I were a law enforcement officer, I would still give them the ticket. Regardless, I am not going to think ill of all immigrants and foreign people in general just because of a handful of idiots. I wouldn't want them to stereotype me, either, just because some white men are chauvinistic jerks. No doubt there are people out there who are ignorant fools, but there is no sense in getting mad at everybody for it. Reserve your anger for the people who deserve it: the specific individuals who actually carry out acts of ignorance and selfishness.

Please don't call out Mexican and just say immigrants. This type of situation was found from all immigrants. Think about it, won't we try everything to get away from speeding ticket when we were pulled over by policeman? In your example, I don't think he can get away from the situation not getting fined by pretending not speaking English. A lot of policeman in my city can speak Spanish well. I lived at Texas. If the policeman does not give a ticket to him because he cannot speak English, it is the policeman's fault in my opinion.

HA!!! Do you live in L.A.? I was in san fernando valley, and that used to drive me nutz- I always just said I knew they understood, and told them what I wanted anyway- but we had some real winners around there.
For some reason, they never pulled that crap with my husband, only with me, which probably means they thought I was a butt-pain.

You should've gone up to cop & guy, and been like "excuse me- what happened, (person's name) and somehow refer to conversation earlier. That would've been funny!

I joke around a lot; when my husband or someone I know says something I don't wanna hear, I'm all "habla espanol? no speak english".

she modifies her voice to handle particular human beings and that especially plenty makes her a phony like barack.. Barack does a similar element with African individuals, he fairly did no longer care approximately Africans individuals because he wasn't getting their vote until eventually the obama marketing campaign portrayed bill Clinton as a racist.

It's annoying- but at least he didn't run like his a** was on fire. I have seen them do that when the law showed up here to serve a summons to one of our guys who works in the plant. This one guy climbed on the roof to hide and the cops weren't even looking for him.

I laughed until tears rolled out of my eyes- How dumb can you be?
