He's into fishing and hunting, but I don't really wanna get him something that tangible because it would be broken eventually. It needs to be something that would last. Please, any ideas would be great. Thank you.

All very good answers, but I can see I need to add detail. We are very close, but the letter would be a little, how should I say, sweet. My bachlor's party will be fishing with him and lots of our friends on two charter boats, that he's providing. And a money clip would slap him in the face, being that he is the least materialistic person that I have ever met. Does anyone know where I can get a fishing reel lazer engraved, one that I can put like, on a plaque or a stand?

The best store to go to for stuff like that is "Things Remembered" they have everything! You can also get anything in there engraved. What I would do would be take a pic. of either you guys together and put it in a engraved frame, wrap it and give it to him!

An engraved money clip or anything of that nature if you are looking for something tangible. On the other hand a weekend of fishing with just you and your father and then you give him the money clip would be a memory that would last a lifetime. Great job on chosing your dad for your best man.

You're right. Dad doesn't need another fishing lure or box of shells.

Sit down and write a letter to him. In it tell him

All the things he has taught you - both by instruction and by example

Thank him for being a wonderful man and incredible dad

Tell him that your fondest wish is to be at least as good a man, husband and father as he was to you

Finally, but most importantly, tell him that you love him and thank God every day that He sent such an incredible person to be your earthly father.

Corny? Perhaps. Meaningful? You betcha. Lasting? Well, forever is a long time.

Oh - keep a copy of this for yourself so you can remember what your fondest wish is....

Try looking for gifts other places... you could probably actually search online... try to google "Gifts for a fisherman" or "Gifts for a hunter"... then once you browse through those, you may get a better idea of what you want and you can search more specifically... like "personalized fishing reel"... there are tons of options out there... its just a pain going through them all. I had the same problem will lots of my wedding party because the whole "money clip" idea was NOT working for anyone... but try and look around

The big multifonction Swiss knife. You can do everything with is. It is less more compact than the Leatherman and there are much more tools on it. On this model you'll find a tool to remove scales on fishes, and another one to retrieve fishing hooks in fish mouths. You don't know how useful it is as long as you don't permanently carry one in your pocket. Its size fits exactly this of the knife pocket on the right side of a 501 Levi's blue jean (if ever your father wear blue jeans, of course).

Beware of the Chinese copies which are of much lesser quality. Ask for the brand Victorinox (the true Swiss Army knife). Take it in red color, not in black; thus it is easier to find it when it fall down in the grass or else.

Your father won't regret it.

P.S.: I don't work for Victorinox and I'm not of Swiss origin. Just a fan.

Go to a thophy place, They have plenty of choices and they can put gold or silver over a special memento, preserve a hat, fishing pole etc. preservet it and place it on a plaque to hang on the wall. They have several choices online as well, no need to discover the wheel, browse on online catalogues.

Gimme a minute and I will give upi the link.

here is one of the many:

What about a bible with his name engraved on it? A Pocket watch with his name engraved on it?

suggestions - ugh!

why don't you plan a trip together for one of these activities. Create some new memories together. It doesn't have to be expensive- even a road trip to a new location can be fun.
