I'm only 23 and I can say that things that happen now would have never happened when I was in school. I cannot remember a single person being pregnant when I was in high school.. Now I have friends who are teachers and substitutes who tell me that kids as young as 13 and 14 are pregnant. Times have certainly changed. Also children are much more knowledgeable to the adult world. It seems that *SOME* parents don't care as much and the children are suffering from it since they aren't shielded to the things that parents in my generation shielded us from. The youth today is growing up so fast, much faster than they should.

I have raised four kids. I see their friends, as well as them, as they go about their days. I see adults treat them as if they were stupid, even though in some cases, the kids may be smarter than the adults. I find it offensive, frankly.

I see adults ignoring kids, until they cause a problem, and then the adults want to "lower the boom" (crack down, get tough, whatever term you use) on the kids. But they don't praise the kids when they are doing well.

I see other adults put such tremendous pressures on their kids - huge expectations on how to behave, etc. forgetting that these are still kids.

I see adults who ignore the kids - they are too busy with their own problems, troubles, and pleasures to be bothered taking care of their kids. In one case, a couple of years ago, one of my kids' friends was told that when she turned 16 she would have to leave home, because the mom didn't want her around while she was trying to date. There were no nearby relatives - so the girl moves in with some guy.

Perhaps as a consequence of all of this, the kids I see today are often materialistic, confused, conflicted, selfish, unmotivated people. Often they don't want to bother thinking about what they want to "be when they grow up", would rather not work for their money, jump from job to job because they are bored or don't like something going on at work, don't save their money, and don't help others.

Not all youth - I see plenty of kids who make plans for their future (in many cases, on their own, because their parents don't want to be bothered helping out), who help the poor and needy, who work hard and enjoy it.

Sure today youth for the most part are growing up in a society where they do not learn consequences and responsbility for their actions and the ability to blame someone else for their bad decision and for this I blame the parents

IT'S DIFFICULT TO SAY BUT YOU'VE GOT TO UNDERSTAND, THAT THE YOUTH OF TODAY ARE NOT ALL EVIL, THERE ARE MANY THAT TRY HARD AND DO GOOD, THE ONES THAT PROMOTE EVIL, THEY TEND TO COPY CAT TV, THATS COOL I WANT TO DO THAT, I WANT TO BE ON TV, VIDEO GAMES, I WANT TO DO THAT, THATS COOL, THE BEST THING TO DO IS TO SHOP, BE IN AREAS WHERE THEY ARE NOT INTERESTED IN, TIMING CAN PLAY A MAJOR ROLE, SHOP DURING SCHOOL HOURS RATHER THAN ON THE WEEKENDS OR DURING THE WEEK AFTER 4 WHEN THEY ARE DONE WITH THEIR HOME WORK, TAKE A VACATION WHERE THERE ARE LESS LIKELY TO BE THESE DISTURBED BEINGS.

today's youth? hmmm.. well, for one,our hormomes are like sky-rocketing.. and then we dont care about education that much anymore..i mean i do because ive seen poverty and how not having education can affect your life forever. but most kids dont give a crap about education.. they think it's just a social place they can go to to hang out with their friends and torture their teachers. youth today? most of us are very rude and impolite. most dont know what respect is anymore. not all teenagers are like that though. some are very hard working, but i think there's a lot of bad influence that surrounds us nowadays like the music, movies, books, etc. i prefer music from the 90's and 80's and 70's because they're better than the crappy music we have today.

One of the great Greek philosophers - Socrates or Aristotle or Plato - wrote a treatise on youth of the day - He was adamant at how rude, selfish, stubborn, foolish etc. etc. they are. This was 3,000 or 4,000 years ago.

The more things change the more they stay the same.

There the unlucky generation created into a horrible and corrupt world where their first instinct is survival through violence and crime. I think its sad that children no longer have the luxury to be just children but have to live in a world full of anger, hate, war, poverty and cruelty. Humans adapt to there environment and if that environment is bad what hope do our children have?

Todays youth: Blind to the way of the world. Led by cell phone commercials, sexual music, and drug promotion.

Today's youth are extremely self-centered and have a definite feeling of entitlement, and it totally scares me that they are the future of this earth.
