I just got my cat a week ago and there is one room that we dont want him in and that is our bedroom. So when it is time for bed we close our bedroom door. Well he will sit there all night crying. Should i just let him in or keep it closed or what do i do???Oh and the reason we dont want him in there at night is cuz when the baby sleeps we fear he might snuggle to close....

He's a new member of your family and wants to be close to you at night because he finds it comforting.

I understand your concerns that he may try to sleep with the baby, but a crib net would prevent him from being able to do so. These must be taut when fitted or the cat may use them as a hammock. If you have difficulty find a crib net, you can make one from large sections of fine mesh lace curtain (net curtain) or mosquito netting.

There are many untrue myths surrounding cats and babies, so you might find the articles below helpful.

If there was no baby issue, I'd say let him in. But since the baby is there, you can't be too careful. Keep the door closed, I guess the cat will take the message. If you could actually close the cat in another room, where he won't be right outside your door, it may be even better (mostly for you). Just make sure his litterbox and food and water are with the cat. And his favourite bed.

You should get a designated room; one far away from your bedroom where the kitty litter and the food is kept and keep the cat in there. Get a few toys for him/her and keep the room warm and dark with a soft bed. If the cat is young it will be easy to get it to get used to sleeping through the night; however if it is old it will be much, much harder to train. another thing you could do is keep it awake and active during the day. If you are away during the day and can't keep it active during the day you can try feeding it only once during the day after sunrise; it will train it to gain energy to burn it up during the day while you are at work/school/uni.

Problem solved!!

Cats HATE closed doors. They're very curious animals and want to know what's on the other side. Even if they've been in that room before, they know that when it's closed, its unavailable to them NOW which makes them want in. Like one of my cat cries at the bathroom door(like most cats) until I open it and let her sit on my lap while I'm on the toilet..then she leaves as soon as she realizes there's nothing happening here....as always

Does the cat have a bed? If so, how about including it's toys near the bed. I believe the cat just wants to be with you and have company. Good luck and i hope the problem is resolved xD

Your cat is a social animal who looks to you as its caretaker and protector. Let it it. Otherwise it may develop some very anti-social behaviors to show its displeasure. Our 2 cats sleep with us. One has a corner of the bed it always lays on. We keep a clean bath towel on that spot and she loves the smell. You cat will become closer to you if she sleeps with you. More aloof if you dis it. It will not hurt the baby. If anything, they form a more special bond.

You should set up a room in your house that he can sleep in at night. Thats what I do with my cats. I go to bed in my room and they go into the room with there food water and litter box. Then I just let them out in the morning.

You'll have to make a choice, either let the cat in the room, or put up with the crying for at least a while.
