I am trying to trace my family But am getting noplace fast. Can someone out there Help tell me where to look?

I am trying on my dads side moms is to messed up to know anything. Anyway My Grandmother on his side was Bertha Mae Giddings, Her father was Perry Clarke Giddings,Her mother was Rebecaa Moore can not find and thing on them except theDeath Notice. And then I go back to The other side for Harry Wardell My father Dad he was Born 1882 Died in 1957 His father was Francis Marion Wardell his Mother was Nancy Jane Robbins she Married Samuel Wardell Born about 1814 In New Jersey or Pennsylvania died 1864. Married Isabella Brown Can Not find anything on her at all. That is as far as we can go. Any help My father was from around Rushville, Most his life I can not even get anything pulled up on him For a Maurice Edwards Wardell he was born February 28,1920 and past away February 22,1989. He married a Violet Marie Wardell from someplace in Missouri. Her mother was Originaly Edith Ellen Irwin She married Charled Erwin Wust.

Bertha M. Wardell was Married to Harry Wardell May 25,1912 at Virginia, Illinois. She was the Daughter of a Perry and Rebecaa Giddings he is Buried at Palm Cemetary in Rushville I can not find anything on the Rebecaa Moore. Samuel Wardell married Isabella Brown October 10,1842 in Schuyler County, Illinois. He was born in either Pennsylvania, or New Jersey I can not find out who his Parents are. His wife Isabella Brown was born in PA. March 13,1815 and Dies August 9,1896 in Freemont County Iowa. She is Buried at Utterback Cemetery in Madison County Iowa. They had 4 children One is Francis Marion Wardell He would be my Grandfather Harry Wardell Father. Francis Married a Nancy Jane Robbins. Francis was born in 1843 and past away in 1843 in Schuyler County. My father was Maurice Edwardes Wardell he was born in 1920 His name is sometimes spelled Morris Wardell he worked around a Milk route and at the Rushville Illinois School and at Green Thumb around Macomb, at an HC Product Factory .

I have looked at Ancestry .com but it is a site you have to pay to get in. And I have looked in 2 or 3 Geneology sites that don't tell me alot.

There are two Francis Marion Wardells in the following linked site. One is the son of Samuel and Isabella Brown, the other is the son of George W. and Isabella Ream... It could be the family name is being shared by cousins or second cousins, or it could just be a coincidence. There are regular naming patterns in families, or there were in the past.

The problem with following records like this in large parts of the eastern USA is that during both the War of 1812 and the Civil War, a lot of places where records were stored were burned down by one army or another.

Besides RootsWeb, another good place to look is Ancestry.com.

Bonnie, I hope you won't take offense to what I am offering here...
From what you have posted, you have flat out overwhelmed yourself. That alone makes it much more difficult to keep track of what you have/ don't have. And this is COMMON when starting out.
First.. there are literally thousands of places to find ancestry information. Many people hope to go to one central place and find it all.. which is very unrealistic. For some idea of the many places... you might look at www.cyndislist.com.
With thousands of places to look.. and many ancestors... the absolute is to approach in a methodical way. Meaning, using family group sheets for each couple and their children. That is only the husband and wife and children.. plus the names of his/her parents (which links you to that group sheet).
One excellent section at cyndi's is the beginner section. Not only are there tutorials, but warnings on some of the myths and wrong paths that people get lost on.
Next... EACH of your ancestors are different persons and different histories. If dad is born in North Carolina, you need to know the resources for that state. Mom's sources can be totally different. When you "clear" your mind, and zoom in on the records for dad, it helps to block the others out.
The records that are out there for persons from the 1900's will also be different from those in the 1800's. So.again, you have to approach each person as a puzzle.. but the pieces tie together as you go. It is CRITICAL that you work one generation thoroughly, before moving back... since more "recent" records will have the leads.
Many people love ancestry.com. It has some great resources.. but in my opinion, it leads to expect too much too fast.
Another network you can use regularly is www.usgenweb.com
a volunteer network. It is county based. So.. if Maurice was born in Dallas co, TX, you will use that site to find what they have, and if Maurice and his parents are in some of their info. It is important to be clear on WHAT you hope to find.
I started by keeping family group sheets on cheap notebook paper in a 3 ring binder, and filed alphabetically by husband's surname. NO having to guess where did I put the notes for that couple?
www.familysearch.org is another free location, and they offer the best known free database. They have millions of user submitted files, but there are errors. The MORE YOU KNOW about finding good sources, the better chance you have to spot unreliable work. On the other hand, church extractions come from the original record.
I suggest taking a deep breath, and setting up a notebook, so you can more easily see what you need to work on. Take one couple at a time, and post what you need on here. Odds are someone will find the answer.
It won't all be online. One great place is your local library and often they will have ancestry for you to use free. I know I contradicted there.. but the idea is that there are ways to access even the "pay" services.
Last.. it might seem like a huge task. But the satisfaction is in finding the pieces, even the ones that no one else knows or has posted.

have you tryed ancestry.com I just put your fathers name in and the year of his birth and death and came up with tons of people depending on were he was born you can find him and his life there not many people know about this site I suppose but I was able to trace my ancestry back to when my family came over to the usa on boats. So give it a try and let me know how you do ok I'm always interested in people finding there ancestry. good luck or your adventure

Often you can find very knowledgeable people at the nearest LDS Church. They research genealogy as part of their religious beliefs, and have the largest vault of ancestral records in the world. You do not have to be Mormon to get access to their information!

You failed to tell us where you have looked, I would begin with ancestry.com and Then familysearch.org the library in your hometown ,County Archives all your kin call them up and just ask if they know about them.
