Turning down a job offer might not be an easy task, but one need to go for it also. If the few minutes of the interview are making you uncomfortable, then one well can understand what those long working hours have in store for you. And even you reject it with a sweet smile on your face plus a strong point, the employer is going to make you guilty of wasting his "VALUED" time....
My experience was of a firm which was in its initial stages of development. I went there with much enthusiasm as the profile was good...a profile I was actually interested. But to my disappointment there were no girls in the firm and all the interviewers seemed like they were actually interested in taking me because of my gender and not the knowledge i had. There were no questions regarding the profile i was applying for. So you all can understand what my further step was....They still keep on giving me missed calls....

Yes, I've turned down a couple "jobs" in my lifetime.. Once was laughable at best... I was recently unemployed and through a family member was offered a job interview at the Marriot downtown.. I dressed nicely and showed up early for the interview.. I have management/retail experience and was interviewing for a front desk/operations manager for a promotion called "at your service" where you supervise kitchen/wait staff/room service.. It was long hours, crappy benefits as well as having to buy appropriate clothing.. They didn't offer uniforms. The wage was around 6.50 per hour. Since the position was downtown, I asked if it offered parking since that can cost anywhere from $60 on up a month.. Of course it didn't.. However, the interviewer had the nerve to mention but, as a "perk" you get 70% off any room at a Marriot anywhere.. I looked her dead in the eye and said at the wages you pay I can't afford to go anywhere much less afford to get a room and I thanked her and left ! So, the choice was very, very easy..

It is not easy to say no thank you but it is important to follow your gut feeling - I was interviewing at a company that seemed great but in subsequent interviews displayed an abusive character - that did not seem like a healthy place to work so I sweetly and politely said thank you after careful consideration I have accepted a job offer with another company. Companies characteristics can be as abusive as the people who run them.

It is not an easy decision to turn down a job offer. It's depends on what the things you actually want from the job - environment, better pay, benefits, allowance. Are you happy with their offer to you etc.

Many times including once I traveled 48 hours in several planes including the belly of a military xport plane to get to the Marshall Islands to work on radar tracking equip. I walked the island all night with Jet Lag. There were no birds, all the building were painted Army yellow, The people that worked there were like zombies .... More alcoooohoool... The army had replaced the videos portion of the music videos with cartoons..
The next day they said.. welcome to the Island Mr..., I said thats great but how fast can you get me off this SOB. I returned the next day...
If it doesn't feel right don't do it.

I have turned down a job offer in the past because the guy who interviewed me kept trying to look down my top through the interview - as I was wearing a business shirt it was pretty obvious what he was trying to do!
I have also turned down an internal promotion offer because I knew they were only offering it to me to get me out of the section I was in - the boss's new girlfriend didn't want any women working with him because she was completely insecure about him. Sad thing is, he was a nice guy who wouldn't dream of cheating on her & her insecurity destroyed their relationship.
