As someone born again, good works are still expected. However they do not confer salvation. Good works are an outward expression of an inward change, a born again person begins an attitude change to become more like Christ because we have been born again and the corrupt part of us as man has died and a new man more like Christ has been born in his place.

Instead of doing works for the reward of doing works I do them because I want to.

Yes, there are many that think that way. They misunderstand some of Paul's teachings about grace being a free gift and our works are as filthy rags. What Paul was referring to about filthy rags are the works under the Law of Moses such as animal sacrifices, circumcision, not eating certain meats, the Saturday Sabbath etc. These works had become empty rituals... dead works done in unbelief and lacking understanding that they were only types and shadows of Christ and fulfilled when Christ died on the cross. The free gift part simple means no money was required to get it... only accepting of Christ commandments is required... of which includes many works.

Filthy rags have nothing to do with CHRISTIAN works such as baptism, doing good unto others etc. The Book of Revelation plainly states we shall be judged by our works. James states that the devils believe and fear and tremble... that faith without works is dead and utterly vain. Would any consider the baptism of Christ as a "filthy rag" even after He himself said it was required to fulfill all righteousness and the Father called him His beloved Son right after it?

While most of these "Once Saved Always Saved" people may believe in this false doctrine, they still by and large practice good works as far as I know. They just do not consider them important for their salvation. With that I disagree with. Even Paul teaches that he keeps his body under subjection unless at the judgment day he himself is a castaway. If Paul who was the greatest of apostles didn't take his salvation for granted... I sure do not take mine for granted!

Some who believe in Once Saved Always Saved may become complacent, feel like all is well, and backslide into worldly ways not really caring because they think they are saved no matter what. This false doctrine may very well cheat their souls of salvation.

The Bible teaches that the bases for salvation is not our works, but Jesus' works of passive and active obedience. If my works could bring me to heaven there would be no need for Jesus to come and die on the cross. Therefore it is Jesus righteousness - His blood which cleans us and washes us white as snow.

What about good works? The Bible tells us that when we are born-again we are given a new heart, or a new will to do the will of God. The evidence of this change has taken place is that they love God's law and seek to be obedient to it, and seek to do good works. Not as a bases of salvation, but because of the result of salvation.

is it true that "born-again" people believe that good works are very much unnecessary?

Good works are a necessary "evidence" of salvation but they don't add to the finished work of Christ Jesus on the cross. The Bible teaches in Ephesians 2 that a person is saved by grace through faith and that their salvation is a gift of God, that salvation is not from works so that no one can boast before God claiming that they had something to do with their salvation.

However, it goes on to say in the next verse that a believer has become God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works that God prepared in advance for them to do.

In James chapter 2 it talks about how good works are evidence of true faith. James writes that faith without works is "dead" and says that works demonstrate a person's faith. He points out that even demons have faith in God but no one would make the mistake of saying that their faith was of the saving kind.

So when you ask in your question if born again people think that they don't have to help a poor person, the answer is that helping a poor person can't add to the salvation that God has already given them, but if they don't demonstrate a desire to do good things like help the poor then they probably are not saved but have only made a profession of faith.

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

James 2:14 What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled," without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. 18 But someone will say, "You have faith and I have works." Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works. 19 You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe--and shudder!

thats not TRUE...im not a born again though i could say that they were too religious i mean god fearing than roman catholics....they help other peolpe not just only by telling or spreading the words of god but they help for they do believe that we are a family who really help one other without expecting for something in return.this is not a bias but being a part of the born again family is a very influensive religion which has a big impact to ones personality.

Did you know to be born again is a step closer to SATAN
it is part of the AntiChrist !! now try and prove me wrong ?
2 John 1:7 For many decievers are entered into the world, who confess not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh.
This is a deciever and an Antichrist !!

No that is not what it means. They do these things because it is not a sin. They are born again because they have asked for forgiveness and all that. They still do good things, but these are not what will get you into heaven. You must be born again.

Wow i've never seen so many people who CLEARLY HAVEN'T READ A BIBLE BEFORE.

Just read it guys, it says that you will recieve salvation "by faith not by works." This means that you won't get saved just doing "nice things" you have to believe in christ and believe he died for your sins.

And yet people still think that "if I do things like feed the homeless and adopt little kittys and bunnies I will go to heaven."

And just coz ppl have this realization doesn't mean that you don't care about homeless people. Even non christians care can care about the poor!

WOOLLY WORM YOU ARE TALKING RUBBISH, WHERE IS THAT SCRIPTURE U MENTIONED???

Here's mine "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from youselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do " (Eph. 2:8,9).

They are necessary as God requires as to do good. We do not believe that we can be saved by doing good. Salvation is entirely by grace, entirely through faith the Jesus Christ. There is no place for works in this formula. However, the saved must obey God. God commands us to do good works.

Does arrogance run deep in your clan? Why all the 'disrespect' in your question?

Mankind was saved when Jesus died on the cross for our sins (includes you) so we wouldn't have to. All you have to do is ask Jesus into your heart as your Lord and Savior and you get to go to heaven. Then and only then are our works taken into consideration. Being a good person without Jesus will not get you into heaven.
