Over that past few days I have noticed I have had a pain on the left side of my chest, near the top of my ribs. It is worse when Lying down or sitting and it comes and goes. The pain is not unbearable but it is certantly there.
I have been to the doctor recently because I have had abdominal pain and blood in stool. Should I tell him about this symptom too, or is it probably nothing to worry about,
Does pain in the chest point anything out??
Thanks

You should definitly tell your doctor especially as you have had the other symptoms. They may or may not be related.
I had a similar pain to your which turned out to be a pulled muscle but I had been lifting furniture and had no other symptoms.
The pain in your chest could be down to a number of things but you need a medical practitioner to advise you, not someone guessing on Yahoo.

That sounds like pneumothorax. Just incase it is, you should go to the clinic immediately to get the doctor to compare the sounds in your left and right lung to see if there are any abnormalities to one of them. You might be x-rayed.

In pneumothorax your lung punctures due to damage to the alveolar sac in the lung (where gas exchange occurs). In my case, it began with strange pains at the top of my ribs too, near the shoulders, and about a week later when I woke up in the morning I had difficulty breathing. If I am right, you will definitely have to go to the hospital - it can't be prevented.

However, I can't be sure because I'm not experiencing your pain, so please don't think that you've got pneumothorax just yet. By the way, it happens to light-weight young men rather than women or obese people.

Hope that helps.

Sometimes gas can get caught up around the ribs, and also there is a condition called costochondritis which is an inflammation of the cartillage around the ribcage that when it causes pain can be quite uncomfortable.

I would recommend letting your doctor know about this pain as well.

Well hopefully it isn't your heart. You need to talk to your Dr. about it.

My husband had pain in his chest it turned out to be pneumonia. He was in the hospital for 4-5 days and then on oxygen for another couple of weeks.

Call your Dr.!

you should definitely tell your doctor ALL the symptoms,so he can give you an accurate diagnosis of the problem. You should not leave anything out when doing this, your chest pain could actually be pointing the problem out.
