First, jarhead is a term MILITARY people use for marines. When a civilian uses it it's offensive. Terms civilians should not use in referring to the military branches
Grunts
Squids
Jarheads
zoomies/flyboys
Second, the military is mostly male because the change to allow both sexes is relatively recent in military history and social mores change slowly. Also, women are currently not allowed in frontline combat roles, so that limits the number of billets they can be assigned to

It's just that due to the different ways boys and girls are raised, less girls want to prance around in camouflage with a rifle than boys. Some girls do, and some girls just want all those privileges soldiers get, but not enough of them to make the military gender-equal.
---
All this yabbering on about physical strength, bone density, aggression and traditional roles has nothing to do with it. I don't think it's a good idea personally, but fitness and medical requirements for women are usually toned down to take their averages into account. People aren't reading the question - if women aren't joining the military, it's because they don't want to, not because of traditional roles or some sort of handicap.

First of all a jarhead is slang for a Marine; it is not a negative term meaning they want to kill.
Men have traditionally been haunters and warriors, even in prehistoric times.

Men are on average 30% stronger then women
Women have less bone density so they break easier
women have less endurance especially over long period of physical exeration.
you have about a thirty percent high fat ratio then men not just making you physically weaker but also less able to do specific physical feat like jump over a wall.
Women are less agressive then men a important physciological state for a soldier in a combat situation.
women are less likely to take risk which can of course be a bonus under some circumstance but in combat the challenge is more persuading people to put them selves in dangerous situation rather then preventing it.
women i believe but am not sure also experience more muscle injuries
There are concern women in the some units will destroy the comarade of all male units important for there effective operation in combat. esprit de corps
Men have a natural instinctual urge to protect women this can lead to men be concerned with protecting the female in there unit rather then the mission. isreal experiment with women in front line position but found the sign of injured female led to male experienceing "uncontroled protective aggression" which interefed with there duties and the army fear could lead to them commiting massacare.
women can get pregnant at during deployment making them unavailable for duty
Tradition it has always been a male preserve

Because if all the women die (or a significant portion of them), the next generation of children dies without even being born. A country (or tribe, in the days of old) can't afford to lose its women. There is no way to repopulate.
Plus...the reasons mentioned above.

The military has been traditionally a male reserve. True of all countries, not just the US.
