I'm a little worried about my ex (we're still friends). I recently found out that the woman he married chose to hyphenate her name with his and I heard that women who do this are, well, to put it mildly bit**es. What do you think?

Could be true. I had a guy I worked with whose female spouse made him hyphenate his last name. If that isn't the mark of a bit**, then I don't know what is.

If you mean they have their maiden name and a hyphen then the married last name, it is generally a financial thing of being able to legally use both or either one of the last names.

If everyone hyphenated, a few generations from now a man named John Smith-Johnson-Jones-Brown would marry a girl named Mary Williams-Davis-Miller-Wilson, and their child's last name would be Smith-Johnson-Jones-Brown-Williams-Davis-Miller-Wilson

I believe that when a woman marries a man, she should change her name to his. That is one of the biggest signs of respect and love a woman can show her husband. Its also a sign to show that she is committed to him, to relinquish the name she's known all her life to become his.

NO I DONT THINK THAT THEY ARE BITCHES. WHEN I GET MARRIED I WILL HYPHENATE MY NAME BECAUSE MY FATHER ONLY HAD ONE CHILD AND I HAPPENED TO BE A GIRL AND THERE IS NO ONE ELSE TO CARRY THE FAMILY NAME SO I HAVE DECIDED TO HYPENATE MINE

you can have any name you want, so where is the problem???
and besides, it is none of your business WHAT she does in her life...
