I have a cool pix myself, it has a slow processing speed as well as the panasonic. So my new camera is now a Cannon.

I found that Cannon has the fastest processing speed. That means you can take multiple pictures without having to wait for the camera to reset. I am personally impatient, so this a must feature.

Since you have compared these cameras, which one do you think best meets your needs? Have you handled them both? Often, one camera will simply "feel better" in your hands. Go to any store that has them both and do a side by side "hands on" evaluation.

IMO a first-time buyer should seriously consider buying from a real camera store. (A store that only sells cameras, not 10,001 other things and cameras.) The salesperson at a camera store is trained and knowledgeable about every camera they sell. They can answer questions, help solve problems, and offer intelligent suggestions. Some real camera stores also offer an hour or two of actual instruction on how to use your new camera. Try getting that level of service at a discount store or over the internet. Sure you may pay a little more at the real camera store but at least you'll have access to someone who can actually be of help.

Good luck and happy photo taking!

Although the Panasonic cameras are bad with shutter lag, they are overall much better than the Nikons. Go with the Panasonic.
