Regarding 9/11 specifically. Right after 9/11 practically everyone in the whole world (except for some Palestinians who celebrated it) was sympathetic to the Americans, or at least condemned the terrorist attack. Even radical islamists like the Jemaat Islamiya in Pakistan, Sheikh Yassin of Hamas, the El-Ekwan of Egypt spoke out against the 9/11 attack. If i remember correctly, even Saddam Hussein condemned it.
However, America has totally squandered this worldwide sympathy and goodwill by it's actions since then.

I think its surprising to see on the fact a cleric is saying it.
Also though....i'd like to say.....when sept 11th happened....i knew some people that refused to believe bin laden was behind it. THey were against the attacks.....but they refused to believe bin laden would've done it.
I mean they refused to believe he was behind the first bombing. Again they thought that was horrible. People though don't wanna know bin ladens past. THey just want to deal what is happenign now.
Anyways..bin laden of 20 years ago probably would have tried to stop these attacks, but something happened to him.
But yeah....most people rather than sayign these things...would have just not.....so thats what i'm surprised about.
I agree with the statement w holey.....i mean read the chapter of the quran entitled war....you see why the actions of sept 11th are non islamic.

Yes I think most muslims in this world hate terrorism.Jihad according to islamic teaching is an effort by sacrifying the life,wealthy and other effort for maintaining the religion of Allah if it is attacking,oppressing and insulting by other religion followers or infidels.Osama bin Laden and his fellows are cowards.They did not hit the persons directly who attacked,oppressed or insulted Islam and its followers.So there were many innocent casualties by the act of terrorism.
They play hit and run like guerilla war.They could not confront each other with their enemy because they have adequate forces and arms for doing that.They could not touch the US government and its allies directly..They recruited some people in several countries but all of them could not attacked the related persons as their enemy.So they make a squad for
suicide bombing but its victims were many innocent people.It is not a pure jihad in line with islamic religion.I am afraid they will not have a reward but oppositely a punishment from God.

Perhaps those who are of better conscience are coming to the realization that sins of omission are as grave as sins committed. For far too long many have failed to bravely stand in the face of atrocity and lead their people. Hopefully the move to more recent events will not take as long as the horrors of 9-11 took. Things are happening now...today...that need to be addressed. The slow pace is not serving anyone very well. Delay only serves as an enabler.

What a stupid error on my own part. That article is dated 2001. It was nice to have my hopes up, but now the sense of dismay is greater than it was. UPI is hardly a source Muslims will take seriously in the mid east anyway. Thanks for nothing.

just about EVERY muslim cleric denounced bin laden, condemned the 9/11 attacks, and spits on terrorists...but it's hard to hear when you have the likes of limbaugh, o'reilly, beck, savage, and coulter screaming about 'islamofascism'...whatever that made up word means...those with brains, think...those without brains, spout propaganda and hate

It makes me think that I still haven't understood the meaning of jihad. Many say that jihad is the internal struggle to understand God, what has this to do with "destroying military installations"?
