Okay, I am asking this for my mom. Over the last few months she has developed this HORRIBLE cough that just keeps getting worse. She has been to the doctor, who thinks it might be allergies. She is using Advair, and that has helped minimally--although I think it is getting progressively worse. She had requested a scope, but the Dr. didn't think that was necessary. Now, she owns up to having a metallic taste in her mouth for three weeks, and just this week has developed some sort of sores on the back half of her tongue. (I haven't seen them personally.) Any ideas? Before anyone asks, she has never been a smoker, and doesn't drink. (If that matters.)

Her cough is sort of dry/hacking. Laughing or exertion seems to bring it on, although she can start for no reason. She has been on the Advair for several months, so would the taste just now start? She is going back to the Dr., I was just curious.

Oh, and she has had a negative TB test within the last year. Of course, I guess she could have gotten it since.

This is probably not related, but she has been having a TON of dental work lately.

First, I am not a Dr. but I'll try. During an examination, there is so much info to be gotten by vital signs, tests and the patients physical emotional presentation, so I suggest your Mom see the Dr. again. The cough is troubling. Is it a productive (wet with sputum that is green or brown?), or a dry hacking cough.

Advair leads me to think the Doc is thinking early onset Asthma which can be caused by environmental influences or even a gene triggered at her age. The taste could be the Advair, the back half of the tongue has raised little nodes that can appear like sores but we all have them.

Again a detailed history is most helpful. What if anything was she doing/exposed to when it started, what if anything makes it worse/better.

Upper respiratory difficulties are very hard to treat never mind diagnose. So make as many appts as it takes to get her well!

The cough and metallic taste make me think bronchitis, which is an infection. The Advair will help with bronchial swelling but will not eliminate the cause. Your mom needs to get to either an allergist or immunologist. If it is allergy, they are in the position not only to make a proper diagnosis, they will also be able to identify what is causing the allergy. If it is not allergy, then they can still treat her for any number of pulmonary conditions, since this is what they do for a living.

My youngest son has severe allergies, the place he's taking meds known and has had to pass to the ER. while his allergies is incredibly undesirable (in the autumn) his Pediatrician has a wellness practitioner Assistant that is composed of our homestead in the night to ascertain him. His visits will purely final for a month or 2 until his "set off season" is over with. purely for reference, we are residing in a huge city of 450,000.

That can be a multitude of things. Sounds like she is having an allergic reaction to something. Not necessarily to any allergys in the air, but maybe to something else. Is she taking any medicines? Her body is saying that she is getting too much of something. Its most likely allergies to something, or allergies in the air.

Find another DR that will take her seriously!

A nebulizer with Albuterol helped me tremendously for my coughing spasms.

advair you have to rinse your mouth after ever time you use it or it will give that metal mouth stuff. she could have bronchitus and it can get bad. she needs to see the doctor and be checked it could be in herlungs now. shes probably raw and that means probably bronchitus.

ask her what she needs to talk about. she is harboring some pain within her and she needs to get it of her chest. get her to talk about her problems everyday for a few months and see what happens to the cough.
