We just got a new puppy and my old dog is afraid of him

The old dog is a female chihuahua that is very unkind to most strangers and is terrified of other dogs/animals. She is 5 years old

The new dog is a male 4 month old chihuahua that is very playful and full of energy

We got the puppy two months ago and she stills doesn't like him. We have tried putting a muzzle on her and putting them in the same room, but all she does is stay in the same spot until we take the muzzle off.

Whenever he gets near her she growls and will go for his face if he gets too close. She doesn't try to attack him when they are apart, only when he gets close to her

Sometimes when Im on the computer she lays next to my feet and the puppy comes up and lays in front of her with his head to the floor. All she does is turn her head sideways and not look directly at him.

Sometimes when we let him in she goes and hides in my room and does not come out

Also, what do I say to them when she tries to bite him.

I would hide my face too, if I saw an energetic, ignorant, young puppy with very sharp puppy teeth coming towards me. Your older dog has discovered that being bitten is no fun. It hurts, and he may feel like he will be scolded for teaching the puppy not to bite. It would help matters, if while preventing any real harm to the pup, you let the older dog teach him some manners and dog etiquette.

Older dogs frequently snap at pups without actually hurting them. They are teaching them to respect their elders. Unless your older dog actually is connecting and hurting the puppy, I'd let her do her job. He doesn't seem to mind for more than a few minutes, does he? If you back him over her he'll never learn doggie manners and may even end up hurting her when he's an adult. My gut instinct is to let them play this out without interference, but keeping an eye on them both to make sure no body is really getting hurt. Of course if your dog is afraid of all other dogs, she might be a bit more aggressive than is needed. In that case, you'll have to break them up and find another solution.

I saw this on the dog whisper,,he had the older dog on the leash and the puppy was introduced to him...and he pulled on his leash whenever he showed aggression toward the other dog..to show him that was wrong...I would keep the puppy caged, til he is completely trained. We just got one and the puppy whisper,(you can google and he will answer questions).
told me the puppy needs to be in crate, til he is trained to go potty outside. We've almost got him trained,he seldom goes in house, but he still stays and sleeps all nite in his area which is sealed off with a baby gate.
I don't recommend hitting a dog,but if he doesn't stop bitting fuss at him severely and put him on leash and make him submissive to you...You are his boss, you need to show him that.

should have let them meet outside of your home, which is the old dog's territory

old dog feels weak or unprotected by you

always pet your old dog first

do not give your new dog TOO much attention

in those type of dogs the female is the dominant one. she is fully in charge and you must let them fight it out they won't hurt each other and she will let him know how far he can go. she has to teach him manners and its ok. she will eventaully like him when hes older hope sometimes they dont'. take care. they are not two people dogs one dog one home geenrally
