I've been told it is the hard drive broken and you need a new one and all your stuff is gone forever, and been told it means your screen freezes so you do a restart.

whenever a computer don't boot up due to the data in the hd - the general term is 'hard drive crashes' - it is like a record player with needle head - the platter and the read/write head in the hard drive - sometime the data get corrupted (damaged) sometimes it is the mechanism.

if the data is corrupted - some of the data can still be recovered but if the mechanism died - that it is harder to retrieve the data.

if screen hangs - maybe a small problem easily fix but if the computer do not boot up at all - then likely it is the hard drive problem....and it is harder to fix.

i just got my computer fixed cuz the hard drive kept crashing and then stop working all together. if u pay a little extra they will recover all yoyour loss data. if ur computer freezes it can mean your computer is running to many programs at once and freezes or it can mean u have a virus or hard ware problems
