Yes it does but you have to be very careful in the way you increase it into your system if you haven't been drinking it. If you drink too much water and have never done it, you will overload your kidneys and kill yourself. That just happened a few months ago in a major city where they were having a drinking water contest. It was sponsored by a radio station. Two girls died and several were very sick.
To successfully work up to a half gallon to a gallon of water a day which is what your body need in order to flush it properly, you have to start at the bottom. For 3 days measure the amount of water you drink but do not deliberately drink more just because you are measuring it. Take a gallon jug and just drink from that all day when you want some water. At the end, measure what is left and subtract it from the gallon and you find out what you drank. Do that for 3 days and then get the average for the 3 days. Then, increase that average by 1 cup for the nest few days until you know you can handle it without feeling bloaty or fullish. When you feel fine, then drink that amount and another cup. At no time during this increase, drink less than that amount or more than that amount. Eventually you can drink a gallon of water with no side effects every day and actually develop a thirst so bad that you want to have the water. Water is what flushes out the impurities. Do not use anything in your water when you drink it. Drink it just plain. As soon as you put something like tea, lemon or koolaid into it, the body no longer looks at it as water but will process it as a food source so you lose the benefit of the water. That is the downfall of a lot of diets. People don't understand that process, not the one about increasing water gradually or the one about drinking water all by itself. Your body is made up of over 90% water. Your brain tissue alone is 85% water. It would stand to reason that you need alot then to survive.

Here is some stuff on water it is good for you but it doesnt make you loose weight by itself
Drink More Water Everyday. Many places suggest 8 cups (2 L) of water a day. It sounds like an absurd amount of water, but actually, you can drink tea without sugar to make up some of the quota. In fact tea, especially green tea, rev up your "metabolism" (actually cause a temporary increase in calories burned).
For fat loss purposes, it is important to remind yourself that thirst is a much weaker stimuli than hunger. If you consistantly feel hungry after meals, don't immediately think that you need to eat more. You may simply be thirsty!
Needless to say there are many benefits of water. 69% of your body is made of it!
We can exist without food for months, but without water we can only survive for a few days. Your body is made up mostly of water, which:
Is essential for digestion, nutrient absorption and elimination
Aids circulation
Helps control the body's temperature
Lubricates and cushions joints
Keeps the skin healthy
Helps remove toxins from your body
Every day you lose water from the body through urine and sweat, and this fluid needs to be replenished. However, your body has come equipped with a mechanism that tells you when you need to replenish your supply--it’s called thirst!
Drinking water is good for you. It will not make you fat, if you drink 8 glasses a day or even 15. Just dont drink too much more than that.

It won't result in you losing a single milligramme! If you drink more water all that happens is it goes in one end and comes out the other. The only way to lose weight is to eat a little less and do a LOT more!

No it doesn't! For god's sake! Use a bit of common sense here.
This probably comes from the fact that if you fill up on water all the time, you wont want to eat asd much, so will consequently lose weight. But this isn't a good way to lose weight, it's effectively starving yourself.
If you really want to lose weight then there is only one way, eat a better diet, do more excercise. Simple.
The current reccomended healthy eating plan is four or five small to medium meals a day, each one (apart from breakfast) should contain some carbohydrates (rice/pasta/potatoes etc) some protien (chicken, fish, etc) and lots of vitamins minerals and antioxidants (fresh fruit and veg). You can pile your plate high with as much veg and snack on as much fruit/fruit juice as you like. Just keep one day a week as your 'treat day' where you get a takeaway/pizza/whatever.
Also excercise is essential. Cardio excercise will not only keep you healthy, increase your lung function and decrease your resting heart rate, it will also burn off a lot of calories, keeping you slim.
Weight training is also important, use light weights with lots of reps and you will tone and define your muscles without 'bulking up', which will keep your body strong and supple, but also increase your metabolism so you burn off even more calories even when you are resting!

No. Drinking water won't make you lose weight, quickly or otherwise. The only way to lose weight is to burn more calories than you consume. Of course drinking lots of water has other benefits including improving your skin, keeping your kidneys working at maximum efficiency, and taking the edge off your appetite. You should aim to drink 5 litres per day for maximum benefits, more if you are excercising. The downside is many trips to the toilet! Drinking too much water can lead to Hyponatremia or "water intoxication". In very extreme cases it can cause death. This is not down to how much water you drink, but how quickly you drink it. The kidneys can process 15 litres of water per day, but if they get too much too quickly your body quickly loses sodium which causes swelling of the brain..

You're not going to lose weight by just drinking water, that's for sure. Exercise and adjusted diet is the thing that does it, not the water. But drinking water is good for you.

The way not to do it is starve yourself, to start with. Just exercise and eat right. I did....lost 90 LBS because of it. Starving yourself won't help at all. Drink more water, eat less before bed, and don't eat for stress are the 3 things I follow and i'm going pretty well if i don't say myself. 90 LBS isn't anything like 5-10lbs so take my advice. If you want anymore details, feel free to email me. ~Adia
PS: I went from drinking sodas to water and that helped a lot !
