This is just what happens when you get thrown out of society and you go living the nomadic life in the wilderness; you go mad and start hearing things.

...and people who suffered from such mental disorders are sometimes called "prophets".

Herman M is correct. It was written by many authors some of whom were prophets. The majority of the old testament is the history of the Jewish nation and the exploits of their kings and heroes. The prophesies are something different. A true prophet in the Bible was tested and had to be 100% accurate in foretelling immediate events. If they were 1% wrong, they would be considered false prophets. Once the immediate prophesies came true then they could fortell events in the far future. Only God could tell them that stuff. Those events have happened or are going to happen. Hope this helps.

The Old Testament was written by various authors,. It is primarily a historical document for the Hebrews. Some of them ( the prophets) communicated with God. The people who wrote it down were scribes and wrote down what they were told. I believe that the Prophets communicated with God because the prophecies are still coming true thousands of years after they were written. Tough trick to do without true divine guidance.

As said many authors but not God though they said they were following God's they were actually following their own. If God really wanted the destruction and mass murder stated to be the purpose of God then God would be the only unpunished mass murderer who it is difficult to punish being imaginary but needs to be punished anyway as God is behind many mass murders throughout history even after new books written later and it was much laterThe Pope during the medievael ages said God wanted more murder added as did many priests during Spanish Inquisition, Thirty Years War thenfast foward and here comes North America and South America added to the list. Enough there to consider rejecting God even if there was any belief. as to writers involved Moses,Daniel,Joshua, Abraham and others listed. To finish it off God says Satan is The Father Of Lieswhile all the time God endorses rape, slavery, excecution, stoning, and againg mass murder destruction of cities. nowadays these type of things are crimes under The Geneva Convention which implies God's word is invalid and besides God is an affront humanity with the attituides espoused so God should be rejected.

It's so difficult to convey to people why they should "believe". This is what faith is: Faith is the confidence that what we hope for will actually happen; it gives us assurance about things we cannot see. (Hebrew 11:1) no one can tell you or convince you to believe. It happens when you truly ask God, with a pure heart, to show you if he is real. It won't be a field of daisy's and rainbows instantaneously but the Spirit will eventually work in you. There's a quote that says "I rather live pretending there's a heaven than die and confirm there is a hell". Think about that for a sec. If even the tiniest possibility that hell is real is a scary thought then ask God to reveal himself to you. He is so awesome! Read Hebrews 11 and the Book of John. Don't be cynical when you do, just read it. God used men as instruments to write His "letter" to humanity. They ranged from kings to common fishermen, but the 66 books of the Bible were all given by inspiration of God. Proof that this Book is supernatural can been seen with a quick study of its prophecies. See Psalm 119:105 also. I will pray for you tonight. I'll pray for the Lord to open your eyes and your heart. be blessed! BTW: Don't get caught up in religion or anything else. This is about life and death and your relationship with God and His son Jesus who died so we could one day be in heaven. Your life here is temporary. Where do you want to spend ETERNITY?? :)

The Holy Bible, the Quran and the tura were concieved at a time in human history when there was no scientific method for explaining phenomena related to the universe, questions like where did we all come from and the origins of life on earth. The writngs of the ancients contained within the pages of documents like the bible were a human attempt to explain these sorts of phenomenom by ascribing them to the existence of a higher being or beings in the form of God or Godesses. Thus the christian holy bible can be classified along with Greek mythology and the belief systems of many primitive indigenous tribal peoples around the world. All human religions are relics of the past when there was no scientific method for explaining things.Another reason for mans creation of god or gods to believe in is his fear of death and the unknown. We discussed this a great deal in my first year university philosophy class. The whole idea of what happens to man after death. essentially mankind seeks immortality through the concept of eternal life, the idea that existence continues long after life ends, that man is the only living species with a soul. though there is no empirical evidence to support this claim, man clings to the notion based on blind faith or what is commonly refered to as apriori evidence. It is said in scientific circles that man has a God gene that may be traced all the way back to early man long before we evolved into homo sapien and began to walk upright and make tools. we are the only primate species to obsess over and cling to notion of a belief in the existence of a God or some other higher being. In fact it has been shown that the physical structure of the human brain has been altered by this strong belief. Does all this mean that there is an actual God or higher power in existence? Common sense rationality says a flat unequivical no. There is an element of denial on the part of those who continue to perpetuate this notion even in the age of science. One could argue that people with a religious belief to be dellusional or even mentally ill. If someone said to you that they believed in UFO's you'd probably think that they should have that person committed to a mad assylum. It's hard for many human beings to accept that once their existence as a mortal comes to an end that it's over, that there is no eternal afterlife, that you only get one chance at life and that you should make the most of your time here because it does eventually come an end. Hope that helps you somewhat in determining what kind of intelligent belief one should adopt in thinking about existentual questions like the one you have asked here.

Christians will tell you moses wrote the first five books but he didn't. How could someone write their own eulogy? Read The Age of Reason. Thomas Paine proves from the bible it was not written by who it says wrote it
